Lawrence Academy holds Christmas concert BY LESLIE BEACHBOARD ‘ Bertie Ledger-Advance MERRY HILL - “Christ mas time is here.” Lawrence Academy’s elementary school classes presented the Lawrence Academy Christmas Concert ti tled “Christmas Time is Here” last week. The program was pre sented twice on Thurs day, Dec. 7. The first performance was at 1:30 p.m. for the middle and high school stu dents, staff and guests who could not attend the later performance. The last performance was held at 7 p.rri. for parents, families and friends of the students. The theme for this year’s program was traveling through time with the popular Christ mas song from the 1940’s through now. Lawrence Academy Head of School Jason Wynne welcomed the evening’s guests to the special program for which the students had been working hard for months. Pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and first grade students rocked their way from the 1940’s through the 19'60’s singing “Mr. San ta,” Jingle Bell Rock” and “Little Saint Nick.” Pamela White’s kin dergarten class per formed a version of “Go Tell It On The Moun tain” using hand bells. Next the fifth and sixth graders danced their way through the 1970’s and 1980”s. The students sang “Step Into Christmas,” “Last Christmas,” with a solo from Summer Mizelle, and “Wonder ful Christmastime.” During the transition for the next grades, Dora Saunders’ first class performed “O Lit tle Town of Bethlehem” with hand bells. Second through fourth grade completed the journey traveling from the 1990’s through today. The classes sang the Sponge Bob SquarePants’ hit “Don’t Be A Jerk, it’s Christ mas,” “Mistletoe,” fea turing a solo by Maris- sa Lashbrook, and “All 1 Want For Christmas Is You.” Additional fourth grade soloists included Grace Furlough, Brylee Lawing, Ellie Noles, Sarah Hunter Spruill, Emma Smith and Layla Williford. Additional third grade soloists included Scar lett Amarante, Lois Ev ans, Maggie Mae Price and Ella Swain. All grades combined for the evening’s finale of the Chipmunk song, “Christmas, Don’t Be Late.” Wynne closed the evening with his re marks. Lawrence Academy Music Teacher Scott Bradshaw gave a spe cial thanks was given to Phyllis Faulk, Elaine Lancaster and the Law rence Academy Drama Club for providing guid ance and assistance for the program. Windsor Elementary ‘tells it on the mountain’ BY LESLIE BEACHBOARD Bertie Ledger-Advance WINDSOR - “Go Tell It On The Mountain.” That was the theme for the 2017 Windsor Elementary School’s Christmas Play. ;. The play offered song, dances and the playing of recorders by the kin dergarten through fifth grade students under the leadership of the school’s music director Voilstead Kearney. ■ The Masters of Cer emonies for the event were students, Montrell Outlaw and Omari Out law. The kindergarten stu dents sang “The Little Snowflake.” The first grade stu dents sang, “Santa is My Buddy.” -The third grade stu dents performed “Hot Cross Buns” and “Jingle Bells” on their record ers. The fourth grade students sang “Silent Night.” The fifth grade stu dents closed the pro gram with “Go Tell It On The Mountain.” The performance included praise dancers and singers. The praise danc ers included Arianna Brown, McKenzie Cher ry, D’Nftsja Freeman, Zha’Dajha Garrett, Shakenya Hyman, Kh- iah Hines, Imari Outlaw and Christiana Taylor. The praise singers included Jamal Parker, Alexia Dickerson, Ta- leeyah Mack, Montrell Outlaw, A’Zareya Peele, Zan’Terria Rascoe and Michael Thompson 111. Soloists for the show included Amber By rum, Za’quan Out law, Tiffany Thomas, Zoey Barnes, Tayvien Ward, D’Courtland Ras coe, O’Keen Ford and Shawrun Maggette. After each grade per formed, they would return to class, giving room for the next class to perform. The gym was packed with par ents and other family members who came for the program. “Thanks to every one for coming to our program. The students have worked hard pre paring for it,” said Kear ney. Windsor Elementary School Principal Tracy Gregory thanked every one for coming to the event, and asked every one to listen to a small presentation made by a Better Beginnings for Bertie Children rep resentative about the programs available for younger children in Bertie County.
