BERTIE LEDGER-ADVANCE OCTOBER 17,20181 A3 The fabric of Bertie County since 1832 Academia Bertie County students among honorees MCC holds recognition ceremony WILLIAMSTON - Recently, Martin Community College’s Division of Continuing Edu cation held a Healthcare Pro gram Recognition Ceremony in the MCC auditorium. The event recognized 12 successful completers of summer 2018 healthcare programs. The program completers represented two Nurse Aide 11 (NAIO classes, a Phleboto my Technician class, and a Pharmacy Technician class. A near-capacity audience of friends and family members showed their support for the students’ achievements. Those participating in the ceremony included: Nurse Aide 11 (Williamston Campus) - Georgette Grif fin, ^esia Herbert, Wysheka Lewis, Davorah Randolph and Delonda Smith; Nurse Aide 11 (Bertie Cam pus) - Shemeca Best, Fonta- sia Cherry and Ebony Hardi son; Pharmacy Technician - Tareyah Harris and Kimberly Sanders; Phlebotomy Technician - Sh’Tyra Barnes and Brittany Taylor. Fontasia Cherry, Sh’Tyra Barnes, and Kimberly Sand ers reside in Bertie County. Cherry and Sanders were also recognized for acheiv- ing gold level CRC status. After processing into the auditorium. Pharmacy Tech nician student Tareyah Har ris gave the invocation and NAll Student Delonda Har ris bid everyone welcome. Sue Gurley, MCC’s Health care Program Coordinator, offered congratulatory re marks and encouraged the students to continue devel oping their health careers. Gurley noted that all of the students had shown great potential and strong com mitment in the delivery of professional health care. Gurley was then joined by MCC’s Dean of Continuing Education, Nathan Mizell, to distribute the certificates and personally congratulate each program completer. Brenda Moore, MCC’s Direc tor of Human Resource De velopment (HRD) then rec ognized the students who had opted to earn a CRC (Ca reer Readiness Certification) credential. Two of the students, Fon tasia Cherry and Kimberly Sanders attained gold level Ebony Hardison of Plymouth, Fontasia Cherry of Windsor and Shemeca Best of Robersonville recently completed MCC’s Nurse Aide II class on the Bertie campus in Windsor. ■. m f.-.r V V V above the third WorkKeys level on all three tests. In North Carolina, there are four career readiness certifi cation levels: bronze, silver, gold and platinum. MCC of fers CRC test preparation on both its Williamston and Windsor campuses. CRC testing is available on Mon days and Wednesdays on the Williamston campus. Dean Mizell congratulated the students and thanked the many family members and friends in the audience for their support of the Health Care Program com pleters. His comments were immediately followed by the recessional. Many of the students in tend to use their health care education from MCC as a stepping-stone to higher ca reer goals. Shemeca Best, Fontasia Cherry, Alesia Herbert, Davo rah Randolph, and Delonda Smith plan to continue work ing toward an RN degree. Most of the students are al ready working as CNA’s (Cer tified Nursing Assistant). The Vintage Inn Nursing Home in Williamston, Vidant Medical Center in Green ville, East Carolina Rehab in Greenville, Vidant Hospital Beaufort and Quality Home Staffing are among the em ployers utilizing MCC health care personnel. Perhaps NA 11 completer Delonda Smith of Greenville said it best; “This class has taught me to appreciate ad vancement in the medical field, to better assist and help my patients, and to meet the highest potential and level of care 1 can provide.” MCC offers ongoing health care classes in both Wil liamston and Windsor. Sh’Tyra Barnes of Windsor and Brittany Taylor of Williamston recently completed the Phlebotomy Technician class offered at MCC. CRC status. The gold level signifies that, based on the individual’s scores on the WorkKeys test, the recipient possesses skills for approxi mately 85 percent of the jobs that have been profiled by WorkKeys in three specific skill areas: applied mathe matics, locating information and reading for information. Career readiness certifica tion (CRC) was developed to help employees gain skills and to help employers make better decisions during the hiring process. North Caro lina issues career readiness certificates to individuals who have taken the Work- Keys tests and tested at or Tareyah Harris, a resident of Robersonville, and Kimberly Sanders of Kel- ford successfully completed the Pharmacy Technician class at MCC. (a) Buffer Zone. - No person or group of persons shall hinder access, harass others, distribute campaign literature, place political advertising, solicit votes, or otherwise engage in election-related activity in the voting place or in a buffer zone which shall be prescribed by the county board of elections around the voting place. In determining the dimensions of that buffer zone for each voting place, the county board of elections shall, where practical, set the limit at 50 feet from the door of entrance to the voting place, measured when that door is closed, but in no event shall it set the limit at more than 50 feet or at less than 25 feet, (b) Area for Election-Related Activity. - Except as provided in subsection (c) of this section, the county board of elections shall also provide an area adjacent to the buffer zone for each voting place in which persons or groups of persons may distribute campaign literature, place political advertising, solicit votes, or otherwise engage in election-related activity.
