Dowdle entertained Saturday afternoon with eight tables of bridge honoring her sister, Mrs. T. E. Brown, of Raleigh, who was her guest for the week-end. Mrs. Fred Johnston, of Tampa, Fla., won high score prize and Mrs. T. W. Angel, Jr., cut consolation. Low score wentv to Miss Jennie Gillam. At the conclusion of the games a salad course was served by Miss Elizabeth Dowdle and Miss Eliza beth McGuire. A number of ad ditional guests came in for tea. Miss Margaret Franks has re turned to her home here after spending several weeks at Greens boro attending North Carolina Col lege for Women during the sum mer session. She was accompanied by Miss Martha Bogher, of Albe marle, who will spend several days here as Miss Franks' guest. Mrs. W. W. Potts, who Has been spending several weeks in Atlanta, Ga., visiting her sister, Mrs. George Bryson, returned to West's Mill Sunday to be with her sister, Mrs. Cora Potts. Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Cartledge, of Athens, Ga., are here visiting their son, C. L. Cartledge, and Mrs. Cartledge. Mrs. E. E. Watkins and daugh ter, Miss Elizabeth Watkins, and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Porter Watkins, of Albany, Ga., arrived here Tues day to spend a few days with Mrs. Watkins' father, J. A. Conley, and sister, Mrs. H. O. Cozad. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Sanders and family returned Tuesday from a ten-days trip to Chicago, where they visited Mr Sanders' mother and saw the Century of Progress exposition. Mrs. L. B. Harrington has moved from the Bryson House to Dixie Hall on Main street. Mr. and Mrs. W. Cantey John son, of Mount Airy, spent the week-end here visiting Mr. John son's mother, Mrs. J. W. C. John son, at Trimont Inn. Mitchel Ashear returned to his home here Sunday after spending several months touring the West ern states. Miss Marjorie West, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. J. L. West, of West's Mill, is spending several days in Royston, Ga., the guest of Miss Sarah Osborne. Harry Furr. of Concord, spent several days here the past week visiting his brother, Dr. W. E. Furr, and Mrs. Furr. PAGE THREE & Mr. and Mrs. Sam Greenwood, of Harrisburg, Va., are spending several days here visiting Mr. Greenwood's aunt, Mrs. J. K, Cun ningham, and Mrs. Greenwood's mother, Mrs. Ervin Patton. Mrs. Walter West and small daughter, of Marion, are spending several days here visiting Mrs. West's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Franklin, at their home on Franklin Route 1. Mr. and Mrs. Frank H. Bryson and children, of Darrington, Wash., arrived here Sunday for a month's visit with Mr. Bryson's parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Bryson at their horne at- West's Mill. Miss Frances Johnson, of Greens boro, is spending several days here, the house-guest of Miss Tim oxena Crawford. Mrs. Henry Childers has returned to her home in Oak Lane, Pa., after spending several days here I visiting Mr. Childers' mother, Mrs. Alice Childers. Mrs. W. J. West, who recently underwent a very serious operation at Angel hospital, returned to her home at West's Mill Tuesday. The Rev. and Mrs. C. C. Her bert left Sunday for Spindale, where Mr. Herbert will be in charge of a series of services this week. Mrs. B. R. Morgan, of Sylva, and Mrs. Charles Yonally, of Tavares, Fla., spent Wednesday of the past week visiting Mrs. Morgan's daugh ter, Mrs. J. Frank Ray, and Mr. Ray, at their home on Iotla street. Miss Elizabeth Shore, of sBoons ville, is spending this -week here, the guest of Miss Elizabeth Dow dle. Mrs. ). Lamb Johnston, of Gainesville, Ga., is spending several days here visiting her sister, Mrs. T. J. Johnston, Sr., at ber home on Main street. Mrs. T. E. Brown returned to her home in Raleigh Tuesday morning after spending several days visiting her sister, Mrs. M. L. Dowdle. Mrs. Boyd Brendle, of Tavares, Fla., spent the past week here visiting her sister, Mrs. J. Frank Ray. and Mr. Ray at their home on Iotla street. Miss Edwina Dalrymple returned to her home here last week after attending the University at Chapel Hill for several weeks. Mrs. F. H. Scroggs and two chil dren, Rosalee and Peggy, of States ville, arrived here Tuesday for a visit with Mrs. Scroggs parents, Dr. and Mrs. Frank T. Smith at their home on Harrison avenue. Misses Vera and Lasca Evans, of Hazelton, Penn., are visiting their grandmother, Mrs. A. J. Evans, of Cullasaja. Alis. H. G. Thomas and son, have returned to Marlinton, West Va., after visiting Mrs. J. P. Nol and and family at their home in the Orlando apartments on Harri son avenue. Miss Carol Ransdel, of Kinston, and Miss Eva Bourne, of Spartan burg, S. C, spent the past week with the Misses Lola and Jessie Ramsey, of Tellico. The four were formerly students at Western Caro lina Teachers' College, Cullowhee. The Misses Catherine and Weav er Dallas returned to their home in Thomastan, Ga., Wednesday af ter spending a week here, the guests of Mr. and Mrs, R. b. Jones. John E. Rickman, Franklin post master, who has been undergoing treatment for a recent illness in a breenville, S. C, hospital, was re- i ported Tuesday to be imyroving. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jones ar rived here last Sunday from Ak ron, Ohio, for a two-weeks visit with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Martin F. Jones, at their home on Bonny Crest, and Mrs. J. B. Stal cup at her home on Iotla street. Mrs. J. D. Porter, of. Spruce Pine, is spending several days here visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Zachary, and sister, Mrs. Harry Higgins, and Mr. Higgins at their home on Harrison avenue. Mrs. Grace Campbell, of Marsh all, is spending several days here visiting her sister, Mrs. Wade H. Moody, and Mr. Moody at their home on Franklin Route 3. Miss Helen Sellers returned to her home here Saturday night after spending two weeks at Kangua Lake attending a conference of young people of the Episcopal church. Robert V. Conley, of Canton, was visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lester S. Conley Sunday af ternoon. Mr. and Mrs. M. A.
