! THURSDAY, APRIL 7, 1938 THE FRANKLIN PRESS AND THE HIGHLANDS MACON IAN catt add ri nern ;s ovuail LLUJLU TO PEDDLERS New Ordinance Bars All Peddling In Business Area Of Town . ' An ordinance was passed by the town board, at. the regular meeting Monday night, prohibiting produce and fruit peddlers, or peddlers' trucks upon the public square or the business streets of the town. The ordinance was passed after a petition had been presented sign ed by practically all of the busi ness firms in the town. The intent is to keep the public square ' free for parking, and also to do away with the trash and litter which comes from peddlers' trucks. The board also voted to take iup with the county commissioners a proposition to allow the use of the county lot on West Main street for Macon county farmers who brine produce to town for sale. No diffi culty is anticipated in getting the consent of the commissioners to this plan, as it will be only for our own people and the lot has ample space and belongs to the county. The matter of trash scattered on the square has been commented upon 'by many visitors, as well as by' citizens of the town, and the new ordinance will no doubt meet with popular approval.
