SOCIAL ACTIVITIES and COMINGS AND GOINGS MISS ARRY PRESSLEY AND GLEN WEST WED Mrs. W. R. Pressley, of Frank lin, Route 1. has innoOnced the marriage of her daughter, Miss Arry Pressley, to Glen West, of Franklin, Route 3. The cere mony was performed Saturday, February 23, in Clayton, Ga., at i the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. C. , Green, with Mr. Green, ordi nary, officiating. The bride was dressed in a navy blue costume with black accessories. Mr. West is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed West, of the Oak Grove community, and was dis charged from the armed forces on October 21, 1945. He spent 43 months in the service, 19 months of which was spent in the Pacific. | Mr. and Mrs. West were ac companied to Clayton by Clyde Bingham, of Franklin. The couple now are at the home of the bride's mother. MISS EDITH MILLER MARRIES T. J. HOLCOMBE Miss Edith Miller, daughter of Mrs. Riffle Miller, of Frank lin, became the bride of Thom as J. Holcombe, of Toccoa, Ga., in a ceremony performed in Benson, Ga? February 17, with the Rev. J. D. Williams officiat ing. Mrs. Holcombe wore a blue gaberdine suit with black acces sories. Her corsage was of pink rose buds. A graduate of the Franklin High school, class of 1942, for two years she was em ployed at the Bell Aircraft plant at Marietta, Ga. At the time of her marriage, she was employ ed at the La Tournea plant in Toccoa, Ga; Mr. Holcombe, who is the son of Mrs. Thomas Holcombe, of Toccoa, and the late Mr. Hol combe, recently received his honorable discharge, after spending five years in the arm ed forces, with 39 months in the South Pacific. Mr. and Mrs. Holcombe are making their home at Toccoa. MISS BROWN, OF DILLARD AREA, WEDS ODELL BRADLEY Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Brown, of Dillard. Hurst, son of Mr. and Mrs. Horace C. Hurst, of Franklin, Route 1, has accepted a position in Lumberton with the soil conservation service. Mrs. D. W. Nichols has' re-,' turned from a visit with her ' husband, who is stationed at Bainbridge, Md. On her return, she stopped off in Washington, D. C., for a short visit) with Mr. and Mrs. Homer P. Nich- 1 ols, who are making their home in Washington now. Mr. and- Mrs. R. V. Rogers 1 1 have returned to their home in Arlington, Wash., after spend- < Ing two months with Mrs. Rog ers' parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Cabe, at Otto, and other rela tives in Macon County. Clark and son. of Gainesville, Ga., spent the latter part of the past week here, having been called here by the death of Mr. Clark's sis ter, Mrs. Joanna Bryson, of Cul lowhee, who was buried at the Ellijay Baptist church Friday. S/Sgt. A. J. Petrozzi, who has been stationed at the Lawson General hospital, Atlanta. Ga., for the past several months, received his honorable discharge Friday, and is here for a visit with his wife at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Womack. Mrs. Petrozzi is the former Miss Marie Womack. Mr. and Mrs. William S. Cun ningham and young son, David, of Macon, Ga., spent the week end here with Mr. Cunningham's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wade R. Cunningham. Misses Blanche and Frankie Leatherman, of the Leatherman section of Macon county, spent last week in Burnsville visiting their sister, Mrs. Lige Hall, and Mr. Hall. Mrs. Horace C. Hurst and son, James R. Hurst, of Franklin, Route 1, visited the Rev. and Mrs. Fred O. Dryman in Ashe ville recently. Frank Matlock, of Boise, Ida ho, came in last week for a visit with relatives and friends in Franklin and at West's Mill. Grover D. Arvey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wade Arvey, who has been serving in the armed forces in Japan, has been home on a 15-day furlough. He will report to New River for further assignment following his fur lough. J, C, Cunningham, student at Western Carolina Teachers col lege, Cullowhee, spent the week end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wade Cunningham. A. R. Higdon, owner of the Franklin Hardware company, spent last Friday and Saturday in Atlanta attending a confer ence of lumber dealers from the southeastern area of the United States. Henry D. West, who has been 111, Is Improving at his home, and hopes to be able to return to work soon. A. Rufus Morgan, Jr., who has been discharged from the army, following service with the engineers in China, is here vis iting his father, the Rev. A. Rufus Morgan, and his aunt, Mrs. Esther Freas. Ernest C. Leatherman, who tias been spending a 30-day fur lough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dock Leatherman, in the Leatherman community, has re lumed to New River, where he ;s now stationed. He recently returned from overseas where tie spent two years in the Euro pean theater. Mrs. Harold Roper, teacher In the Otter Creek school, spent the week-end with her husband it Chapel Hill, where he is at tending the University of North Carolina. Charles Otto Arvey, Bill Bry ant and Boone Leach left Wed nesday for Atlanta, Ga., where they plan to enter Georgia Technician school. Mr. and Mrs. Wylie Norton and Mr. and Mrs. Raleigh Nor ris, all of Diilard, Ga., Route 1, spent Sunday in Knoxville, Tenn., visiting Mr. and Mrs. Norris' uncle. Napoleon Long, who is in ill health. They also visited their cousins, Wesley and William CoileS, while there. Lieut. Lewis Patton, who has been under treatment at the Valley Forge hospital, Phoenix ville, Pa., has arrived in Frank lin for, a visit with his father, Robert A. Patton, at his home on Harrison avenue. T. T. Love, of Nantahala, has been visiting his father, the Rev. M. A. Love, at Demorest. Ga.. who has been seriously ill. Mr. Love's condition is reported as somewhat improved. Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Stilley and two children. Max and Mar jorie, of Gainesville. Ga., visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs Gene L. Jacobs, Franklin, Route 3, Sunday. On their return, they were accompanied by their nieces. Misses Lois' and Kate Jacobs, who spent a few days there visiting relatives and ; friends. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Sanders were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Shuler in Hopewell, Va., recently. Mrs. Sanders is the former Miss Josephine Wal droop, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Byron Waldroop, of Franklin Route 1. i ? - ? Mrs. Herbert E. Church spent a fed days recently in Alcoa, j Tenn., with her son, H. E. Church, Jr., and Mrs. Church. Miss Dorothy Sloan, who is music director at the Methodist church in Thomasville, was here recently for a few days' visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold T. Sloan, and her broth er, Richard, who recently under - : went an operation for appen 1 dicitis. Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Norton, j of Clayton, Ga., were visitors in Franklin last week. Mr. Norton recently returned from Sedro Woolley, Dash., where he ' spent the past two years. Mrs. Gilmer A. Tallent'* parents, Mr. and Mrs. | Frank Tallent, at their home on the Georgia road. Mr. Tallent returned to the States three weeks ago from the Pacific, where he spent 28 months in the armed forces. He was dis charged with the rank of cor poral. A brother, Cpl. Charles Tallent, who is in the armed forces serving in Manila, is ex pected home this spring. J. D. Leach. Mrs. R. S. Jones and two children, Richard and Margaret, left last Friday for a few days' visit with Mrs. Jones' parents and other relatives in LaGrange, Ga. R. S. Jones, Franklin attorney, was in Washington, D. C., the first of this week to argue a case before the U. S. Supreme court. Richard Sloan, who recently underwent an operation for ap pendicitis, is able to be out again.
