old Macon native and farmer,
died Sunday at his home in the
Bethel community following an
illness of 10 days.
Funeral services for Mr. Phil
lips were conducted Monday
afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the
Bethel Methodist Church, of
which he was a member. Offici
ating were the Rev. David Bark
ley. the Rev. R. L. Polndexter,
and the Rev. W. L. Sorrells.
Burial was in the church ceme
tery.
Born January 1. 1870, he was
the son of Samuel T. and Mrs.
tmanda Vanhook Phillips. He
was married in 1904 to Miss Ida

Five Macon men were In
ducted by the local selective
service board last week and a
call for five more on Novem
ber 8 has been received, ac
cording to Mrs. Ollmer A. Jones,
board secretary.
Those inducted at Knoxvllle,
Tenn., were Jerry Neal Potts
and Max Leon Holland, both
volunteers, and Fellz Eugene
Speed, Jesse C. Cunningham,
and Dent J. Simonds. Two oth
ers sent for induction did
not pass and were returned
home, Mrs. Jones said. Thirty
two men also reported for pre
lnductlon examinations at
Knoxvllle.
In announcing the five-man
call for November 8, the secre
tary said 20 men mould be sent
at the same time for pre-lnduc
tlon examinations.
