Along The Way In , Carson Community MISS BRENDA CUNNINGHAM I Staff Correspondent Telephone 764 H. D. Club Meets The Carson Home Demonstra tion Club held an all-day meeting at the home of Mrs. Fred S. Moore Tuesday, February 10. A devotion, "Concerning Prayer," was pre sented by Mrs. Paul Heafner. A demonstration, "Modern Cookery ofBeans, Peas, Lentils", was given by Mrs. Jim Hauser and Mrs. Moore. Dimes were collected from club members for the fourth CARE package from the club. Mrs. Jim Hauser gave the $1 for the war orphan Macon home demonstra tion club women have adopted. Mrs. Nelson Waldroop gave the $1 las tmonth. Each month a different club woman gives. Various book reports and other reports concerning other meetings were given as a means of collect ing "point#. " Mrs. J. R. Ray an nounced that Miss Sally Kesler will teach a class in ceramics on Wednesdays. Any interested per son is invited to attend. The club voted to sponsor the community supper and program. Organizations in the community I ? take turns providing this service. Mrs. John Wallace was wel comed as a new member. The 12 members present en joyed a covered dish dinner. The March meeting will.be with Mrs. Homer Greene. Home On Leave Lt. (jg) Daniel F. Moore is one who joined the Navy and is really getting to see the world. Since his visit home from Hawaii last August, he has traveled to many foreign countries aboard the flag ship, USS Des Moines, with the Sixth Fleet. The home port of the flag ship Is the Villa Franche'. Some of theports he has visited are Port Lyautey in North Africa; Naples In Italy; Barcelona In Spain; Geneva in Ita.ly; and Toulon in France. Lt. Moore flew across the At lantic and came home Sunday, February 15, by way of Charlotte. From there he was accompanied by his sister, Miss Margaret Moore, who works at a hospital in Charlotte. After a few day's leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred S. Moore, he will go to Albuquerque, N. M? (or (our week's schooling before returning to his ship In the Mediterranean. Sponsors Program Approximately 50 people at tended the covered dish supper and community meeting held at Carson Community Center last Saturday night, February 14. The 4-H Club members appearing on the entertainment program were Tommy Sherrlll, piano solo; Jean Dills and Suzanne Cunningham, tap dance; and Brenda Cunning ham and Sandra Norton, peace song. The president, Weaver Hurst, suggested that a set o( goals be adopted by the community (or the year. The goals adopted were <1> To try to Increase the com munity library in both quality and quantity, (2) To support all youtti activities, (3) To make im provements on the community building, (4) To improve mail boxes and signs. (5) To attain a higher sense o( (eilowship in neighbor relations, and (6) To help, by means o( interesting and in(ormatlve programs at commun ity meetings, to improve (arm in come, health, sa(ety, and spiritual life. Mr. Hurst asked that the com mittees appointed for last year continue to serve this year. He also asked the building committee to give a report at the next meet ing on possible ways of (ixing a "dust proof' community building floor. The organization voted to give $5 to the Heart Fund. No charge was made for the supper, but the treasurer reported that $23.20 was contributed. Half of this was given for youth work. Mrs. Earl Cabe. president of the Carson Home Demonstration Club, told of work her club is doing to help the. United Nations in Its work. Mrs. Florence S. Sherrill, as sisted by her son, Tommy, showed a film, "Around The World For 75c." Bridal Shower Mrs. Hichard Compton was hon ored with a miscellaneous shower at the home of Mrs. Mildred Dills Saturday night. February 14. The bride's table was centered with an arrangement of red and white gladioli. Refreshments of valentine cakes and soft drinks were served to some 40 guests by the hostess. Miss Leota Beck, sister, of Mrs. Dills, was co-hostess. Mr. Compton is the former Miss Shirley Blaine, daughter of Mrs. Alex shope of this community. She was married last September at Fort Monmouth, N. J., to Pvt. Richard Compton, of the U. S. Army. She is visiting her mother here. However, she plans to return to their home in New Jersey in the near future. Personals Guests of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Dowdle and family last week end were a daughter, Miss Frances Dowdle, and her aunt, Mrs. Anna Hughes, both of Valdese. All mem bers are urged to attend, since a number of business transactions must be taken care of at that time. Leaders Meet A meeting was held at the home of Fred Deal Tuesday night of last week for all officers and project leaders of the community development organization. - Plans for a number of projects were discussed and work on some will get started as ^oon as the weather permits. Saturday night, February 28, mained in Macon County to visit other relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Mooney Metcalf and family moved recently Into the house vacated by the Robert Vinson family. Marvin Garner has returned home from the hospital and is convalescing from an Operation. Mr. and Mi's. Mac Ledbetter have sold their mobile home and are at present living in the Earnest Wallace apartment, Robert Waldroop underwent surgery at Angel Hospital Wednes day, February 11, and is improv ing. Paul Smith was home here last week end from Fort Jackson, S. C. Mrs. James P. Cunningham spent' Thursday, February 12, visit ing her aunt, Mrs. Eugene Cunn ingham, in Webster. Mrs. Dan R. Reynolds has had the flu for two weeks, but is better. Adolph Conley was injured last week in the chest and shoulder at the Rabun rug factory, where he is an employe, when a hundred pound bag of wool fell on him. He is at home recuperating. Mr. and Mrs. Fred S. Moore accompanied their daughter, Miss Margaret Moore, and their son, Lt. (jg> Daniel F. Moore, to Marietta, Ga., to visit another son, Charles W. Moore, and Mrs. Moore and children, Steve, Andy, and Robbie, Tuesday. Jimmy Dills, son of Mrs Mil dred Dills, has been sick, but is improving.
