TO BOOST AREA - 'Bootstrap* Plans Traveling Exhibit A traveling trailer truck exhibit, filled with products of Western j North Carolina, is the "heart" of the 12-county industrial promo tional project, "Operation Boot strap". set for May 1-2. If "Operation Bootstrap's" goal of raising $109,000 is reached, this traveling exhibit will be built im mediately and as soon as com pleted will depart on a "selling tour" over the United States. Staffed by a competent director. whose salesmanship will be visual ly assisted by the many products of Western North Carolina labor, the trailer exhibit will literally stop at the "front door" of in dustries planning to move South. Management will be invited to visit the trailer, where the director will be able to quote facts and figures on the entire area, as well as show the industrialists what can be accomplished here. Two Young Maconians Training At Institute By PEGGY CHEARS RALEIGH ? Tvo young men from Franklin are currently en rolled at the Gaston Technical Institute In Gastonla. They are Frank William Nolen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Nolen. of Route 1, and Dorsey Patrick Henry, son of Joe M. Henry, of Route 5. Frank, better known as "Sipe", is studying electrical and elec tronics technology and will gradu ate in January, 1960. A graduate of Franklin High School, he at tended N. C. State College and Evans College of Commerce in Gastonla before he began his technical training. "Sipe" was self-employed In Franklin and his hobby is raising pure-bred Hereford cattle. A mem ber of Carson Chapel Methodist Church, he plans a career as an electrical contractor and hopes to have time for farming and maybe politics. Pat Is a 1958 graduate of Frank lin High School and is studying electronics technology. Air Force and then work with either a radio or television station. The Oaston Technical Institute, a division of the State College School of Engineering, Is operated by the College Extension Division. In 1957, the school was trans ferred to new quarters donated by the Firestone Rubber Company. Included within the three brick buildings on West Franklin Street in Oastonla are rooming and dining facilities, classrooms, laboratories, workshops, offices, a library, auditorium, and other essentials. The two-year training program begun in 1958, includes civil, electrical, electronics, and mechan ical-production technology. Wise planning for natural re forestation is highly profitable.
