Attend Event A number of 4-H clubbers and adult leaders attended the 4-H program Saturday at East Frank lin. Mrs. Ted Blaine was one of the judges in the public speaking and officers contests. Martha Blaine was a judge in the farm and home electric contest. They're Busy Many farmers and home gar deners are busy setting out straw berry plants this week. Many of our farmers took ad vantage of the recent strawberry plant pool to obtain their plants. Personals Gary MeKelvey, of Raleigh, j spent a few days last week with Bill Krickbaum. Bill made the trip back with him to resume his J studies at N.C. State. Ed Williams and daughter. Jane, of Waynesvllle. spent Frl- ! day at the home of Harley Stew art. Mrs. Mary Helen Foster has returned to her home here after several months in Miami. Fla. Mr. and Mrs. Harley Moore Stewart and son are spending the week with Mr. and Mrs. Harley Stewart. Harley Moore, who works for Graham Construction Com pany, is being transferred from Morganton to Tallulah Falls, Ga. Mrs. Fred Hannah. Miss Maxine Hannah, and Mrs. J. T, Hannah left this week for Centerville, Ala., for a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Gene Cocke. All of them plan to spend a week in Panama City, Fla., be fore the Hannahs return home. Mrs. Joe Rhlnehart and son. Jim. of Webster, spent Monday with Mrs. Rhinehart's mother. Mrs. J. P. Moore. Recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Wilson were Mrs Mamie Passmore and family. By SANDRA HENSON ANDi NANCY HUNTER A short time ago. the eighth grade ;>t Union School made .1 science experiment Items used included a largo bottle, thin strips of an aluminum pie plate, lye. water, a balloon, and some string. Mike Hastings and Harold Woody conducted the experiment They placed the water, lye, and aluminum in the bottle. As soon as the lye started eating on the aluminum and the fumes began rising from the bottle, thj balloon was placed over the moc 1 of the bottle. The balloon bee line filled with helium gas which the mix ture was producing. After a few minutes, the balloon was taken off and tied with, a string. Mrs. Ben Winchester, of Bryson City, called the school and said her husband had been rabbit hunt ing 21 miles west of Bryson City, near the Needmore section, and had found the balloon, which Carried the name of the school, city and state, and date it was re leased. After we in vited her to come to the school for a visit, we took color pictures of the class and Mrs. Winchester and the balloon It was an exciting experience for us.
