Mrs. Harris To Give Recital For Music Club Mrs. Irene Nelson Harris will fi?e a recital Friday. April 24. for members of the Franklin Music Study Club and their guests. Mrs. Harris is a prominent teacher and recitalist of Decatur, Ga., and teaches at Agnes Scott College during the winter months She and her family spent most of the summer at their home in Wayah Valley. Mrs. Harris's program for the club will include works by Mozart. Chopin. Debussy. Rochmaninoff, Brahms, and others. The recital will be given at 8 o'clock at the home of Mrs. Allen Siler It will take the place of the regular meeting of the music study club. Stewart Staff Correspondent Telephone 274-J-l Club Meeting i The Patton Home Demonstra tion Club met at the community I building April IS with Mrs. Ruth Patton, president, presiding. Mrs. Florence 8. Sherrill. home agent, gave the thought for the day and also showed club members a picture of the little Greek boy the county has "adopted" and is supporting. The apron the club is patching to raise money for this orphan project continues to make the rounds. The dress review the 29th was discussed and plans were made for some members to attend. Mrs. Sherrill gave a demonstra tion on "Tips in Clothing Con struction", using slides to illustrate it. Plan Menu After church Sunday, the women of the church met to plan the menu for the supper they will serve the Methodist Men's Club at the community building Tues day night at 7 Proceeds will go into the building fund of the churoh. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Ed Williams and children, of Waynesville, spent the night Friday with Mrs. Will iams' parents, Mr. and Mrs. Har ley Stewart. Mrs. Kenneth Grasty and chil dren, of Elizabeth ton, Tenn , visited Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Ledford over the week end. Mr. and Mrs. Mack Patton and daughter, of HendersonvlUe. visit ed In the community Sunday,, They came to see the new Patton church, which Mr. Patton attend ed as a child. Mr. and Mrs. Boyce White and children, of Raleigh, are spending several days with Mrs. White's mother, Mrs. E. R. White. They also visited Mr. White, who is a patient at Aston Park Hospital In Ashevllle. Mr. White Is reported improving. Mrs. Boyce White and children are remaining .here for a visit of several weeks. Miss Helen Cochran, of Western CarollrA College, and Bill Krlck baum, of N. C. State College, spent the week end with their parents here. Mrs. Jim Emory has returned home after spending a week with her daughter, Mrs. Fred Elrod, and Mr. Elrod in Chattanooga, Tenn. Mrs. Homer Cochran, who has been sick, is improving. J&rvis Underwood Mr. Hall, son of Mr. and Mrs. Boise Hall, ana Mrs. Hall, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Clark, are now living and working in Atlanta. Plan Supper Men. treat your wives and chil dren to supper Saturday night at the Cullasaja School lunch room! The Cullasaja Community Development Organization is spon soring a "pot luck" supper to raise fundi for its treasury. Meals will lie served from 6:30 to 7:30 at a charge of 75c per adult and 34c per child. The public is invited to attend. Meeting Held The W3.CS. of Salem Meth odist Church met at the home of Mrs. Bob Elders last Wednesday afternoon with nine present. Mrs. Elders presided. The program was on "Working One With Another". The Rev. R. L. Poindexter, pastor of Salem church, was a guest at the meeting. P.T.A. Meets Cullasaja P.-T.A. met at Culla- J saja school last Tuesday night ?with 30 present. Charlie Anders, president, presided. The following officers were elects ed for the coming year: Mrs. Sammy Beck, president; Howard Crunkleton, vice-president: Mrs. Ann Berry, secretary; and Mrs. Marion Bryson. treasurer. The group voted to write our state representative to introduce a bill prohibiting unauthorized parking on public property. The P.-T.A. and the grade mothers at Cullasaja School have purchased two new four-speed record players for the school. Mrs. John Bryson and Mrs. Marion Bryson gave a program on "Family Life". The group en joyed this so much the women were asked to give it again at a future meeting. Take Tests It's test time again! Plans are under way to give standard tests to each grade at Cullasaja School. I. Q. tests were given last week in grades one, three, and five. The "small fry" at Cullasaja School really enjoyed the prepar ations for the junior-senior ban quet held Saturday night. The children kept their noses pressed against the glass doors watching the decorations go up under the eager hands of the high school group. Study Gadgets Higdonvile Home Demonstration Club met at the home of Mrs. Ethel Home last Thursday, with. Mrs. Irene Woodson, daughter of Mrs. Home, as co-hostess. Thirteen members were present. One new I member was welcomed into t^ie club She is Mrs. Alfred Holly. j Mrs. Florence S. Sherrlll gave a demonstration on "Gadgets Galore". A discussion was held about the usefulness of gadgets, and it was pointed out that some aren't the labor-savers they are supposed to be. Mis. Home i^ave the devotional; Two members showed the dresses they will model at the dress revue April 29 at Cullasaja School. Plans were made for the dress revue. THIS IS IT! Attending were Mrs. Harvey R. Price. Mrs. J. E. S. Thorpe, Mrs. C. S. Slagle. Mrs. Pearl Troughton, Mrs. W. T. Jenkins, Mrs. Robert Hubbs. Mrs. H. E. Freas, Mrs. Allan Brooks, and Dr. A. Rufus Morgan. Mrs. Brooks presented a report on the work of the St. Agnes auxiliary during the past six months. Mr. and Mrs. Dewltt Thompson were in Charlotte Sunday and Monday, and Mr. Thompson at tended a school Monday in con nection with his work as a me chanic for Burrell Motor Com pany. Mr and Mrs. Sam Caldwell, of Cullowhee. were guests of Mrs. Caldwell's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Denver Holland, over the week end and attended church at Sugar fork Sunday morning. A/2c Bobby Joe Houston, who is stationed at Warner-Robbins Air Force Base, near Macon, Ga., is spending a 15-day leave here with his wife and small child. Here over the week end to visit Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Moses were their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. I and Mrs. Charles Saunders, and daughter, Debby. of Aiken. S. C. Mrs. Moses returned home Friday, after spending last week at Angel Hospital for treatment. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Bennett have completed thefr new home in upper Bethel community and moved into it this week. Harry Beale was called to High lands last week because of the illness of his father, J. H. Beale. Here For Funeral Among those from out-of-town here to attend the funeral of W. W. (Bill) Stewman at Sugarfork church Saturday afternoon were Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Bryson, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Moore, Mr. and Mrs. Harley Stewman and Bob Stewman. all of Sylva; Mrs. Lillian Wolfe, of Detroit, Mich., Mr. and Mrs. Roy Dills, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wykle, Mr and Mrs. Bill West, and the Rev. Bill Sorrells, of Sylva, and Jim Bryson, of South Carolina. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Carden, Jr., of Sylva, were here Thursday and Friday because of the death of | Mr. Stewman. who was Mrs. Car- 1 den's uncle. They could not attend the funeral Saturday because I Mrs. Carden was ill. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. A. C. j Moore Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. | Emory Brown, of Greenville, S. C.. : and Mrs. D. C. Ellenburg. Sr., of Seneca. Mrs. J. W. Moore, mother of A. C. Moore. Mrs. Brown, and Mrs. Ellenburg, went home with the Browns for a visit. A. C. Moore left the first of this week for Niagara Falls. "N.
