Comin't And Goin'i In Cowee Community NCTSS CECILE GIBSON Staff Correspondent Benefit Slated At the P.-T.A. meeting at Cowee School Monday night it was de cided that the benefit to raise money to pay for the stage cur tains will be held Saturday night. May 21, at the school. There will be good string music and the sale of food and drinks. Another Working Another working will be held at the colored church Saturday morning to finish this project. A good crowd was on hand last Sat urday. The steps were poured and the roof and bellfry painted. It Is believed that the work can be completed Saturday. Services Held Cowee Baptist Church held bap tismal services Sunday afternoon. May 15, and 17 new members were received by baptism. The pastor. the Rev. Clyde Collins, officiated Prayer services were held at Cowee Baptist Church on Wednes day night at 7:30. with Mr. Jack Dillard in charge in the absence of the pastor. Adult choir practice was held at the church, with Mr. Garland Willis as director. The Sunbeams also held their meeting at the church on Wednes day night. Youth choir practcie will be held at Cowee Baptist Church Thursday afternoon. May 19. after school, with Mrs. Edd Brogden in charge. Furman Dillard. of Sylva. brought the message at the Sun day evening worship service at Cowee last Sunday in the absence of the pastor, who left Sunday afternoon to attend the Southern Baptist Convention at Miami, Fla. Bible school was held at Cowee Baptist Church with 13 workers and teachers present. The date for the Bible school was set for June 6-15. Mothers Honored Special recognition was given to the oldest and youngest mother at Snow Hill Methodist Church on "Mother's Day." He is the so nof Dr. and \i > I F'ank M Killian. j DEATH CLAIMS THOMPSON, MACONIAN Cashiers Farmer Dies Saturday In Highlands Funeral services for Wilford Holden Thompson, 70, a Macon County native who had lived at Cashiers for the past 20 years, were held Sunday, May 15, in the Sugarfork Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Thompson died Saturday. May 14. at 12:30 am. in a High lands hospital after an illness of five days. Born July 26, 1889 in Macon County, he was the son of Jaspey L and Mrs. Amanda Ingram Thomt>? son. On January 26, 1912 he mat lied Miss Alice Estes of Cullasaja community. Mr. Thompson's oc cupation was farming and he was a member of the Cashiers Baptist Church. Officiating at the funeral were the Rev. Jarvis Underwood and Rev. Stanley, pastor of the Cashiers Baptist Church. Pall bearers were Clyde Holland, David Stahfield. Lloyd Estes, Robert Este-. Wiley Estes. and James Estes. Surviving relatives include the ! wife. Ms. Alice Estes Thompson: | two sons. Dewitt Thompson, of , Franklin. Two Recitals Cooper Pupils Mrs. Margaret Cooper will pre sent her piano students in two recitals this spring, with the first featuring beginner and elementary students on Saturday. May 21, at East Franklin School auditorium at 8 p.m. Mr. Sammy Beck, trumpet solo ist. will assist in this first pro gram. Older students will be presented in a recital June 5 at the First Baptist Church Chapel at 8 pjn. in a program featuring several two-piano numbers. The public is Invited to both of these programs.
