Cameron and little A. Mac Cameron visited rela tives in Buie’s Creek, Sunday. Mrs. Mamie Dixon, of Raleigh, is spending some time at the home of her brother, J. M. Tyson. H. A. Gunter and family, of Aber deen, visited T. K. Gunter and fam ily Sunday. Mrs. T. C. Gaddy, of Cameron, was the guest of her daughter, Mrs. A. K. Thompson last week-end. Miss Regina Edgerton, of Raleigh, visited her sister, Mrs. T. F. Cameron last Sunday. Rowland Craig left Monday to en ter the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. H. G. Poole, Julian Leslie and Gerald Graham made a business trip to Charlotte Monday. J. J. Pate and sons, Clyde and Dewey, of Rockingham, visited at the homes of J. J. and A. B. Parker, last week-end. Alton Chappel is in town again, af ter a several days visit with relatives in Raeford. Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Lancaster have as their guest their cousin, W. D. Morris, of Goldsboro. As we write, we are enjoying three vases of beautiful flowers, zinnias and asters, given us this morning by Mrs. W. C. Leslie. Mrs. Leslie’s flower garden is a thing of beauty at present and the bright blossoms have a way of getting into various homes in the community and bringing joy. Miss Eoline McMillan spent Wed nesday night with relatives in Rae ford. John Lancaster is spending a few days with relatives and friends in Goldsboro and Rocky Mount. Mrs. W. P. Shaw and D. E. Bailey, of Southern Pines visited J. R. Thomas Saturday afternoon Mr. Thomas is resting more comfortably this week, we are glad to report Mrs. L D. Black returned Friday to her home in Fayetteville, after hav ing spent a week with her daughter, Miss Louise Black, at Hotel Vass. Rev. Dougald Monroe and family re turned Saturday from a months vaca tion spent in the Virginias, and Mr. Monroe filled his regular appointment at the Vass Presbyterian church Sun day evening. Little Margaret Mon roe, who was quite ill the greater part of the month, is improving, but is still suffering from indigeston. Mrs. A. G. Edwards spent Tuesday in Raliegh. Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Blue and chil dren, of Eureka, spent Sunday at the home of J. B. Evans. Gordon Thomas, who has been in Dayton, Ohio, for several weeks at tending the National Cash Register Company’ib training school, (spent Sunday with his parents, leaving Mon day for Raleigh to take up his duties as salesman. Dr. and Mrs. R. G. Rosser and children were Sanford visitors Mon day afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Graham spent Wednesday in Winston-Salem. Mrs. L. C. Wallace, of Carthage, is visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs. j. M. Tyson. Little Mary McLauchlin, of route two, underwent a tonsil and adenoid operation in Fayetteville, Tuesday. She was accompanied to Fayetteville by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. D. McLauchlin, and Mrs. D. A. Mc Lauchlin. Mr. and Mrs. Arch McGill and Mr. and Mrs. Sam Smith, accompanied Alex McGill to the home of his aunt, Mrs W. H. Thompson, who lives sev eral miles beyond Maxton, on last Thursday, and spent a most delight ful day. Alex will spend the win ter there and attend the Liberty school. * « « Classes Visit Lakerim The young men of class No. 7 were guests of the young ladies of class No. 6 of the Methodist Sunday school at a picnic at Lakerim, between Fayette ville and Raeford, on Wednesday af ternoon of last week. Mrs. H. G. Poole, teacher of class No. 6, accom panied them, and the outing proved most enjoyable. * « ♦ King-Muse Miss Vera Muse and Le Fore King, of near Cameron, gave their friends a surprise on Saturday afternoon, September 4, when they drove oyer to Carthage and were quietly married, the ceremony being witnessed by only a few of their most intimate friends. Mrs. King is the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Muse, a gifted young lady who is quite popular among the younger set. Mr. King is from South Carolina, but has been residing in this sedtidn fofr ^aon^e time. Girl’s Circle Entertains The Girl’s Circle of the Presbyterian church entertained at a most delight ful social in honor of their pastor, Rev. D. Monroe, and Mrs. Mnoroe on Monday evennig of this week, Mrs. D. A. Smith’s attractive home was the scene of the gathering and the mem bers of the Woman’s Auxiliary, the invited guests. Various games and contests were enjoyed, after which the girls served delicious refresh ments. * * * Special Service A special service, to which all are invited, will be held at seven forty- five o’cock on Friday evening of this week at the Vass Mjethodist Church in preparation for the Holy Communion, which will be observed at the Sunday morning service. Meeting of Woman's Club The Woman’s club opened the fall work by meeting in the club rooms last Friday evening for a business and social hour. Among other business, the follow ing new officers were elected: President, Mrs. G. H. Simpson; vice-president, Mrs. H. A. Borst; sec retary, Mrs. D. A. Smith; treasurer, Mrs. D. A. McLaughlin; editor, Mrs. Dan S. Ray. Department chairmen — American Home, Mrs. J. W. Cameron; American Citizenship, Mrs. R. S. Oldham; Public Welfare, Mrs. Sam Smith; Literature, Mrs. John Lancaster; Social, Mrs. A. M. Cameron. After the installation of officers, sev eral interesting games were enjoyed, followed by delicious refreshments of ice cream and cake. There will be a business meeting Friday, September 17.
