Naso many years ago two institutions made a small
beginning in Aberdeen and vicinity. One was a small
bank in the little building beside the Aberdeen and
Rockf ish railroad station. The other was an experiment
in raising bright leaf tobacco up on the hills that have
since come to be called Ashley Heights.
Not so many years. But today the Aberdeen tobacco
warehouses are hopeful of handling six or seven million
pounds of leaf. The Page Trust Company enjoys the
sound position of an institution representing six mil
lion dollars.

These two grew side by side, encountering their va
rious singularities of fortune, helping each other, com
rades in the development of the territory.
Clouds and Sunshine.
For a little while some clouds have been hanging
over the financial sky, not here alone, but round the
world.
Not as bad as some times the country has passed
through. And always it is axiomatic that when winter
comes spring is not far behind.
Side by side the budding tobacco industry and the
/
little bank can still travel with hope.
