Carson was in court for malicious injury to personal property and for being publicly drunk. Charges were brought by his wife, who claimed that he burned her dresses, valued at around $!.">, cursed and otherwise abused her and ran her off from home. “She tore up two of my shirts,” counteicd the defendant. Carson told the court that he and his wife had lived happily a part of the time, but that most of their married life had been trouble. “She don’t like me and I don’t like her and we can’t get along,” he explained. For the next five months they will have the oppor tunity of learning whether it is true that “absence makes the heart grow fonder.” Isaiah McNeill, colored man who was arrested in Vass by a highway pa trolman and was shot as he fled from the officer, was given ninety day^ in jail to be worked at the county home. He was found guilty of driving an automobile while intoxicat ed and of possessing and transport ing but not for purpose of sale. Spencer Hicks and L. 0. Twines were given eighteen months each on the roads for larceny. The complain- Mrs ' witness, a dewberry picker, claim- ' ed that on the day he was paid off, these two men approached him and while Twines held him, Hicks started to go through his pockets. About this time another man came up and the two men let their victim go. How ever, they kept their eyes on him the rest of the day, he claimed, and that night while he was asleep on a bencii, Hicks took the money, .$4.46, from his pocket. Clay Clegg, colored, was fined $50 for violating the prohibition law and driving a car while intoxicated. He was given a fiO-day suspended sen tence and is not to drive a car in six months, Xeill Ray, colored, pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct. Prayer for judgment was continued upon pay ment of the costs and upon his giv ing a deed to a person with whom he had entered into a contract. Robert Comer, white, of Lee county was fined ijioO and the costs and is not to drive a car for fK) days as a result of his driving while intoxicat- ed. Wiley Brown, W. C. Brown and Henry Peat were charged with pub lic drunkenness and violating the pro hibition law. Peat was given thirty days on this case and required to serve ninety days on an old account which had been suspended condition ally. These sentences are to run con currently. The case as to the two Browns was continued as W. C. Brown was sick and unable to be in court. These three defendants are white. Charlie Foster, colored, charged with carrying a concealed weapon and assault, was given eight months on the roads. Henry Maness, colored, found guilty in .May of violating the prohibition law and given a five months sentence, was ordered to serve his term.
