Seawell, Jr. Mrs. Walter Kirknian Entertains Mrs. Walter Kirkman entertained Wednesday afternoon at a lovely bridge party in honor of Miss Isa belle Plummer of Petersburg, Va., and Miss Elizabeth Rogers of Fayette ville. Dainty handkerchiefs were present ed to the guests of honor, and Miss Mary Robert Shields, winner of high score. A delicious salad course was serv ed by the hostess. Those playing were Misses Isa belle Plummer, Elizabeth Rogers. Mary Robei't Shields, Mary P’owler Spencer, Rozelle Williamson, Margar et Penn, Dorothy Cole and Mrs. Charles Nicoll. Will Reed spent Monday in Fay etteville. Mrs. Malcolm Withers of Detroit, Michigan, arrived Thursday to spend some time here with her mother, Mrs. May Gardner. Miss Catharine Shields has return ed from a trip to New Yorw City and Boston. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sloan and children, Sarah Betty and Charles, Jr., of Belmont were guests of Mrs. N. A. McKeithen Sunday. Mr.s. Mamie Brant is spending some time here with her sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Gardner. J. L. Rice of Cameron was in town Monday. Dr. and Mi’s. George Heinitsh of Durham have returned home after spending a few days here with Mr. and Mrs. George C. Graves. Mr. and Mrs. R. N. Page, Jr., of Aberdeen were visitors here Friday. Dewey Bailey of Apex was in town Saturday. Mrs. M. J. McPhail and little Ann Muse of Sanford visited friends here Saturday. E. T. McKeithen of Aberdeen was in Carthage Saturday, Mr. and Mrs. U. L. Spence went to Raleigh Saturday for the day. Mr. and Mrs. John Beasley left Sat urday to spend some time at Sulli van’s Island. Landon Tyson of Vass was iin town Wednesday. 0. B. Miss Lois Buffaloe of New York City arrived Saturday to spend her vacation here with her parents. Mrs. William Glover of Fayetteville was a week-end guest of Mrs. Will Reed. Claude Shaw of Baltimore, Md., is visiting his mother,'Mrs. Addie Shaw. Mrs. Edgar Underwood, Mrs. E. C. Hines and Miss Mary Underwood of Sanford visited friends here Wednes day. Miss Elizabeth Rogers returned to her home in Fayetteville Sunday af ter spending a week hei’e with Mrs. Charles T. Sinclair. Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Hall announce the birth of a daughter, Carolyn Wal lace Tuesday, August 16th. Carl Fry went to Al'bemarle Tues day for the day. Little Misses Valeria Miller and Carol Graves have returned to Lake- view after spending some time with Mrs. George Graves. Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Gardner of Orangeburg, S. C., were guests of Mrs. May Gardner Wednesday and Thursday. Mrs.^ Walter Kirkman spent Friday in High Point. Mrs. Clifford Wilkins who has been visiting her sister, Mrs. H. F. Seaw ell, Jr., returned to her home in East Orange, N. J., Monday. Mrs. Gilliam Brown is ^pending this week in Jackson Springs, guest of Mrs. M. B. Brown. Misses Ola and Margaret Cole are in Asheville for a few days this week. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Kirkman had as their house guests over the week end Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Hamlet and little daughter, Katherine Ann of South Hill, Va, Paul Waddill is spending a few days with his mother, Mrs. J. E. Wad dill. Mr. and Mrs, F. Y. Blanton who have been in Shelby for several weeks have returned home. Locals Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Brindell and children and Mrs. V'irgil T. Clark are enjoying a vacation at Myrtle Beach. Miss Fay Sullivan of Kure Beach is visiting Miss Elsie Chandler this week. W. H. Goldsmith has returned from a week end trip to Blowing Rock. Mr. and Mrs. P. F. Buchan and children Katherine and Frank, Jr., and Miss Mary Cameron motored to Kinston last Sunday to spend the day. Mrs. Daniel D. Arightmire has gone back to her home in Columbia, S. C., after spending several weeks with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. H. El liot. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Ruggles re turned from a vacation at Carolina Beach Saturday and left the follow ing day for their home in Kingsport, Tenn. Hiram AVestbrook spent the week end at ^Asheville. Dowdy and Butler of Sanford are drilling a new deep well at Olive Brothers Dairy and enlarging their water facilities. Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Through their attorney the defendants entered a plea of guilty of simple trespassing, which plea was accepted by the solicitor. Prayer for judgment was contijiued upon the following condition: That each of the defendants pay apportionate part of the cost for which the county is lia ble; '.hat ihe defendants pay into the court the sum of .$!.') for the use and benefit of A. P. Maples, and that the cost be paid one-half the ensuing May term of Moore county Superior Court. Sam Brown and Sonny McDonald, for th? larceny of fertilizer from the peach packhouse of the S. B.
