Harbison. Mr, and Mrs. pugene McKenzie are visiting Mrs. McKenzie’s moth er, Mrs. Louise Meyers in Baltimore. Mrs. Henry Butner and daughters, Janice and Margaret, have gone to their home in Elltin after spending sceveral weeks here with Mrs. But- ner’s mother, Mrs. A. E. Leavitt. Mrg. Leavitt has closed her cottage here and gone to Raleigh to join Mr. Leav itt. Mrs. R. W. Sutton is spending the week in Greensboro with her moth er. Mr.s. W. W. Weadon. Mr. and Mrs. N. P. Oglesby an nounce the birth of a daughter, Doris, on September 10th. Mrs. John R. Drexel and children will return to their home, White hall, tomorrow after spending the summer in Narmgansett Pier, K. I. Mr. .ind Mr."!. Richfird Tuft.s have gone north for several week.s stay. Mr.s. A. P. Thompson was hostess to her bridge club and several addi tional guests Friday afternoon at her home. Miss Doroth.y McKenzie has re turned to Concord after doming home to attend the wedding of her brother. Miss Muriel Smith has returned from Washington, D. C. Proctor were dinner gruests of Mrs. J. J. McGould- rick Wednesday evening at her home, Maple Cottage. Dr. T. A Cheatham spent a few days this week on the coast, fishing. Mr. and Mrs. Robert S. McClelland and daughter, Gay, have returned home from Litchfield, Conn. Bobby McClellan remained in Litchfield and has entered boarding school. Mrs. Thomas R. Cole, Mrs. F. Shel by Cullom and Mrs. H. A. Campbell entertained Friday evening with a bridge party for the teachers. Mrs. Gordon M. C;ameron, recent bride, [ vva.s pre.sented a gift and bridge pi'izes were won by Miss Hassie Sherrill and J. W. Harbison for high scores and Miss Tlielnia Killian auu I. C. Sledge for low scores. Miss Jane Gibbs is spending the week end in New Bern with her moth er and on Saturday will be an at tendant in a friend's wedding. Among those leaving for .schools this week were Mi.sses Olive and Car ol Hennessee, Eloiso Wicker and Katherine Sledge to Woman’s Col lege, Greensboro; Bill Viall, U, N, C,, Chapel Hill; Teddy Scofield, Yale, New Haven. Conn.; Miss Nancy Sledge, Deveaux Schools, Bei-wyn, Pa., and Dick Young, Jr., U. N. C. Mrs, Allan Watson has gone to U. N, C,, Chapel Hill to continue her post graduate studies, Mrs. Taylor and Mrs. Watson’s children. Doris, Dorothy, Jean and Allan Watson ac companied her. Miss Sylvia Nutrizion has returned after spending the summer at Eseeola Lodge in Linville and is at the home of Mrs, A. S. Coburn. Mrs, Coburn has moved her beauty shop from the theatre building to her home, which she is enlarging. I. C. Sledge left Tuesday evening on a business trip to New York and Boston. Mrs. Eric Nelson and childien. Donald and Carolyn Ann. arrived Tues day from Little Compton, R. I. Mr. Nelson will return next month. Mrs. Gilbert Owen of Columbus, Ohio is the guest of her son, Lieut. George Owen and family. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Dana and dau ghters, Penelope and Shirley and Mrs. F. H. Gunning have gone north for several weeks stay. Mr. Dana will go to Saranac, N. Y., on bus!' ness and the others ndll visit in Lee, Mass. Mrs. Foster Kelly will open the Thrift Shop Saturday and it will be open each Saturday thereafter. Miss Evelyn Holliday who was confined to the Moore County Hospi tal, is much improved and able to be out. YADKIN CLUB TO START CHAMPIONSHIP EVENT The first round of the annual Yad kin Club championship golf touma- ! ment will be played over the Pine hurst No. 3 course this Saturday and Sunday. This tournament will be four rounds, medal play, with full handicap and may be played either Saturday or Sunday of each week through October 12th until 72 holes have been played.
