Mar jorie Jellison, Ann Murphy, Rebecca Neal. Helen Hilderman, Bonnie Bar- rum, Catherine Hilderman and Mary Belle Price, young ladies enrolled at W. C. U. N. C., arrived home on Wednesday for a few days vacation after mid-term exams. Mrs. J. A. Gargis entered Moore County Hospital on Monday for treat ment. Charles Phillips and Stancil Stroud, students at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, spent the week-end with their parents. Both Mr. and Mrs. James B. Swett have been confined to their home on account of illness for the past two weeks. Mr. Swett was able to re turn to his work on Monday. E. M. Stirewalt of the Southern Pines School faculty is confined to his home with influenza. Major and Mr.s. E. B, Sebree are both confined to their home on ac count of illne.ss. Lieut. Col. and Mr.s. Arthur Gower and family, who moved here two months ago from Panama left today for Texas. Col. Gower, who wa.s tran.sferred from Panama to Foit Brapg, has been a.s.signed to duty in Texas. .Timmy Ross has been ill for the past ten days suffering from influ enza. Mrs. Harold Fowler and Mi.s.s Em ily Fowler are ill with influenza. Miss Bet.sy Barnuni entertained a number of her school mates at her home last Friday night following thf> basketball game, at a farewell party honoring Dan Gower. H spent part of last week visiting his niece, Mrs. Arthui- Hale. J. A. Smith and W. B. Holliday mat e a business trip to Durham last Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Holliday and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hale spent Sun day in Fayetteville visiting friends. Miss Margaret Roth left on W'ed- nesday to spend several days in New Bern. Arthur Chiswell spent Monday in Sanford. Mr. and Mrs. Cail G. Thompson and Mrs. Royal R. Scott departed on Monday for Hollywood. Fla., where they will be the guests of Mrs. W. W Fuller, II for two weeks. Mrs. Broadus Smith of Charlotte i’as been spending the past ten day? visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. Y. Poe Ro.ss Gray, student at the Uni versity of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, spent the week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Maxwell Gray. Mrs. Oscar W'ilkerson of Durham arrived on Sunday for a week's visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Reid Hall. Mrs. E. A. Bougault, who wa.s a pa tient in the Maare County Hospital for a week, returned home the lat ter part of last week. Mrs. Richard H. Valentine of Staf ford Springs, Conn., and Mrs. R. M. Chapman of Baltimore, Md„ were Ruests over the week-end of Mi.ss Elinor Valentine. Mr. and Mrs. Erian Boutros of Charlottesville, Va., have arrived lor a short visit with Miss Elinor Val- ntine. Returning from a tiip to Miami Beach, Miss Caroline Woodason, Miss Helen Woodason and Charles Bar ker, all of Philadelphia, were guests this week of the Misses Callan, of Pennsylvania avenue. Mr. Barker if manager of the fine furniture depart ment of Gimbel Brothers of Phila delphia. Mrs. William Chilton of Charles ton, West Va. widow of the late United States Senator Chilton is spending several weeks at the High land Pines Inn. Miss LeLone Currie and Walter E. Blue, Jr., left on Sunday night for Washington. D, C., to attend the in auguration on Monday. The Junior Willing Workers will meet Monday evening, January 27 at 8:00 o’clock at the church with Miss Minnie Guy and Miss Lula Belle Med ford as joint hostesses. Miss Lillian Roberts entertained at tea on Friday evening for the benefit of the Junior Willing Workers. Many games were enjoyed during the even ing, with Miss Maggie Edwards win ning the high score prize and Mrs. Esther Ferguson the consolation. Those present were Mesdames Bes sie Clark, Bessie Blue, Coralou B. Lewis, Nellie W. Mann, Kay Wolver- ton, Esther Ferguson and Miss Mag gie Edwards. Mrs. D, Al. Blue has moved into the apartment above the Powell Fun eral Home where Mrs. Blue and Z>. Al, Jr. will make their home. Mrs. Ernest Ives entertained six guests at luncheon at her home on Monday. Mrs. A. Burt Hunt was hoste.ss to seven guests at luncheon at her home on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Savage of Bal timore, Md., are expected to arrive on Sunday to he the guests of Mrs. A. Burt Hunt for a few days. They have spent .some time in Florida and are enroute to their home. Miss Gertrude O’Bryan resiimied her duties at the C. T. Patch depart ment store on Monday after being confined to her home .si'vei'al days with influenza. W. S. Bushby made a business trip to Green.sboro last Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. P. S. P. Randolph, Jr., left yesterday on a week's trip through South Carolina and Georgia. Mr. and Mrs. Beach Cooke of Cooperstown, N. Y., who have been the guests of Mrs, A. Burt Hunt for the past week, left on Monday for California, Harry A. Lewis left on Wednesday for Roanoke, V'^a., where he will at tend the Frigidaire convention in progress there. Mrs. William C. Mudgett entertain ed at a theatre party for Mr. and Mrs. David Davis of Meirick, L. I., N. Y., on Monday night. .John Peyton Ware, a student al Princeton University, is spending a few days with his aunt, Mrs, Eugene C. Stevens, and Mr. Stevens at their home on Highland Road. Mr. and Mrs. Richard H. Miss Laura, and rMs. Clar ence Fdson, who have been touring Florida for the past two weeks are expected to return on Saturday.
