They also had as,their guest Wilbur Viebrock of the 60th Infantry, Fort Bragg. Mr. Viebrock helped with organ mu- aic for the play. H. A. Lewis spent Thursday in Greensboro where he attended the annual Spring meeting of Frigidaire dealers. Miss E^relyn Edson and her group of 45 young people of the Junior League of the Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Church hiked to Man ley Springs on Saturday. After the hike a weiner roast was enjoyed by all. Miss Lenora Riggan of Winston- Salem, who has been spending a few days with Mrs. Bird Graves, left for her home on ^Tuesday. Mrs George Sells and Miss Mar garet Sells of Johnson City, Tenn., who have been the guests ol Miss Rlinor Valentine for the past week, left on Tuesday for Statesville. Mrs. Clarence Peck left on Satur day for her home in Binghamton, N. Y., after spending three weeks visit ing her mother, Mrs. George C. Abra ham. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Howe of Brad ford, Pa., who have been guests at the Belvedere for the past month on their annual visit, departed on Wed nesday for their home. Mr. and Mis. Ivey Hall Miss Ma rie Hall, Larry Rider and Mr. and Mrs. Harold L. Tate motored to Myrtle Beach and Brookgreen Gar dens on Sunday. Miss Elinor Valentine entertained on Sunday at dinner at the Holly wood Hotel for Mr. and Mrs. Nicho las W. Mr. and Mrs. Preston Stancil had as their dinner guest last Thursday night Mrs. Harold Tate. Horold Fowler who has been con fined to his home with measles, is out again. Mr. and Mrs. Ellsworth Tompkins, who have been spending their Eas ter vacation at the New England House, left for their home in Pater- ."3on, N. J., on Saturday. They were accompanied by Miss Elizabeth Crawford of Hawthoine, N. J., who has been spending some time at the New England House. The Rev. and Mrs. Elmer Willis Seri were guests at the New Eng land House over the week-end an- loute from Sarasota Fla., to their home in Delavan, Wis. Mr. Seri for merly pastor of the Church of Wide Fellowship. Miss Pauline Holmes had as her guest last week Miss Florence Id- ding of York Village, Me. She left for her home on Sunday by motor. Mrs. Ted Kennedy is spending the week in Washington, D. C. Dan S. Ray, Jr., who has been confined to his home for the past six weeks on account of illness, re sumed , his studies at the Southern Pines High School on Monday. Mrs. H. L. Epps has moved into her new home on North Ashe street. The B. T. U. of the Southern Pines Baptist Church will have a banquet next Thursday night at 7:00 o’clock in the church. Mrs. William Crane and daught ers, Louise, Mary and Pauline,, Mrs. Amelia Schmidt and Mrs. How'ard McNeill visited the tulip gardens in Washington, N, C., on Sunday. Mrs. Virgil P. Clark returned last Friday night from Elizabeth City where she spent a w'eek visiting her son, Clement Wrenn Jr. Sixty ladies of the Army colony of Aberdeen, Pinehurst and Southern Pines enjoyed Wednesday’s luncheon at the Skyline following sewing at the Civic Club. Their' next luncheon will be at the Pinehurst Country Club on May 7th with Mrs. H. R. PPierce in charge. KENNETH GODFREY FORMER NIAG.4R.\ RESIDENT, KILLED News of the tragic death of Ken neth Godfrey was received in Nia gara this week and was a severe shock to all. The Godfrey family liv. ed in Niagara for two years before moving to Warsaw about a year ago w'here Kenneth was engaged in the lumber business with his father. It was in this employment that he was so seriously injured that he died two days later in a Wilmington Hospital. Had he lived until June Kenneth would have been 19 years old. Burial was at Barbecue church ia Harnet county last Friday. Surviv ing are his parents. Mr. and Mrs- J. L. Godfrey; one brother John God frey; two sisters Margaret and Cath erine.
