THE PILOT, Southern Pines, North Carolina Paife Sevw*- COURT DISPOSES NUMBER OF CASES Lar(fe Docket Clearen in AH-Day Session; Drunken Drivers Are Fined Recorder’s Court In Carthage Mon day was an all-day affair, with more than a score of cases of various kinds coming up for trial. Three northern girls, Minnie Cam- piglia, 21, and Ann Campiglia, 19, both of Brooklyn, N. Y., and Mary Farrara, 19, of Leominster, Mass., who had been in jail for several days following their arrest in Aberdeen on charges of prostitution and vagrancy, were found not guilty, there being no evidence against them as to immor ality. They testified that they were looking for work, and that they were acquainted with some soldiers with whom they had been seen. Oscar Holloway, a soldier, found guilty of unlawful possession of li quor, transporting, and drunken driv ing, was given a 60-day road sen tence, suspended upon payment of $.^0 fine and costs. His license was revoked for a year. Three soldiers who were riding with Holloway, Ollea A. Wolf, George E. Ginn and C. D Black, were charged with possessing and transporting ille gal whi.skey and being drunk and dis orderly. Their 30-day sentences were to be suspended provided they pay the costs, but they were still in jail Tuesday. Ethel M. Smith, alias Ethel Hoff man, who works in Aberdeen, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and assaulting two soldiers with it, but she was found not guilty. James Ingram. Lakeview Negro, was up on a drunk and disorderly charge, and the warrant ’.vas amend ed to charge his wife, Rocille Ingram, with a.ssaulting her husband. E3ach was given 15 days in jail, to be sus pended upon, payment of the costs. Rocille paid a part of her fine and she was allowed to go home to care for her child. James Clegg, Carthage Negro, who as a result of a row that took place at Carthage restaurant was charged with assaulting Edward Lee Mclver and Adam McLeod with rocks and Garland Morrison with a knife, was given eight months on the roads in each of the cases, the sentences to run concurrently. Howard Steele, Carthage Negro, plead guilty of the larceny of $19 from the premises of Annie Jane Kelly and was given four months on the roads. Floyd Currie of Pinehurst was giv en six months for public drunkenness and disorderly conduct. He gave no tice of nppeal and bond A^as fixed at $.')00. Henry Goins. Southern Pines Ne gro charged with drawing a gim on a minor child of Anne Robinson and threatening to blow his brains out, was found not guilty. Donald White, a soldier, drew three monthx on the roads for being drunk and disorderly on the premises of Ha zel Allen. Found guilty of selling liquor, Le- Roy Wooten, Pinehurst Negro, was sentenced to serve three months on the roads. He plead guilty of as.sault- inp Prince High with a gun public drunkenness and di.sorderly conduct, and was given four months for this, to begin at the expiration of the three months sentence. Other Cases Wilson Black, Carthage Negro, 30 days suspended upon payment of the costs for driving on the wrong side pf the highway; Jim Kimball, Vass. 60 days for public drunkenness and cursing, suspended upon payment of costs and condition that he refrain from drinking intoxicants for two years; Eugene Snipes. A series of business sessions begin ning with a directors’ meeting at 11'30 Monday morning will be cli maxed Tuesday evening with a ban quet and entertainment. For ladies’ entertainment, .Mrs. George Thomas is chairman; other committee members are Mrs. H. S. Durant, Mrs. Larry Minor, Miss Evelyn Ed.son, and Mrs. Earl Free man uf Aberdeen. General entertainment committee is headed by R. S. Durant, vice-presi dent and general manager of the ‘entral Carolina Telephone Company; with Earl B. Freeman of the Sand hill Telephone Company, Aberdeen; and E. C. Heins Jr., of Heins Tele- ph^'ne Company, Sanford. Liouis Pitcher of Chicago, execu tive vice-president of the National Independent Telephone Association, is scheduled as principal speaker for Monday afternoon, with an address by H. S. Sheperd, apparatus staff en gineer, Bell Telephone laboratories, New York City, featuring the Tues day morning program. Others on the program are Dail Holderness of Tarboro, association president; Harry Dewey of Elizabeth City, secretary-treasurer; E. W. Ol- schner of Tarboro, chairman, coordi nating committee; J. R. Porter of Tarboro, Robbin Tilden of High Point, B. F. Fisher of Martinsville, Va., and Edmund Harding of Washington, N. tor careless and reckless driving, his S25 fine to be stricken out upon payment of costs on account of his being a soldier of good standing and reputation. Also. Burney Spivey, Hemp, $50 and costs and four months suspended sentence for unlawful possession of whiskey for sale; Elmer Floyd Whit aker, Mt. Airy, prayer for judgment continued upon payment of $3 per week for support of his children, to be under the supervision of probation officer and not drink any intoxicants; Joe Lassiter, Cameron, not guilty of unlawful possession for sale,' the two quarts of legal whiskey to be return ed to Batie Lassiter, son of the de fendant, who testified that it belong ed to him.
