THE PILOT, Southern Pines, North Carolina Page ThrM THE WEEK IN VASS MBss Blue Is Crownod Miss Mary Katharine Blue, popular eighth grade pupil of the local high school, was crowned "Miss Vaas- Xiakevlew” at th# hallowe’en carnival Friday evening, leading a field of seventeen contestants. She was spon sored by the Sanitary Barber Shop. Miss Margaret Louise Kelly was run- ner-up. The coronation ceremony was an interesting feature of the evening's program. Miss Helen McRao, “Miss| Va.ss-Lakeview" of 1940-41, sat on a! throne at the center of the stage asi this year’s contestants ivvere pre- | sented, and crowned Mary Katha-j rine when she was declared the win-j r.er. "Miss Vass-Lakevie»v” is the' daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George | Blue of route 2. A one-act faroe, “Meet the Wife.” was well received. The parts were taken by “Dutch" Hudson, Catharine Cavlness, Margaret Louise Kelly, Janet Rosser, A. Mac Cameron and James Stevens. Two specialty num bers were enjoyed. Matthews was host ess to the Methodist Women's Socie ty of Chri.stian Service at her home Tuesday evening. Mrs. C. J. Temple read the Scrip ture lesson and the following pre sented an imusually interesting pro gram: Mrs. A. G. Edwards, Mrs. W. C. Leslie, Miss Louise Leslie, Mrs. C. L. Tyson, Mrs. S. R. Smith and Mrs. Wk P. Parker. Mrs. T. F. Cam eron conductcd the Bible study. During the social hour a prize was awarded Mrs. S. R. Smith for nam ing the C6 books of the Bible in a written contest, and another to Mrs. W. P. Parker in a hallowe'en con test. Mrs. E. J. Thomas was enrolled as a new member, and Mrs. Bernice Gra ham was welcomed as a visitor. The hoste.ss was assisted by Mrs. A. G. Edwards, Jr., in serving refresh ments. .'Xdend.s (ianie A. M. Week of Prayer The Methodist Women's Society of Christian Service met at the church Thursday afternoon for a program in observance of week of prayer. Mrs. A. G. Edward.s, Jr., and Mrs. H. A. Borst were the principal speakers. Mrs. W. P. Parker and Mrs. C. L. Tyson were in charge of the pro gram. An offering for the week of prayer objective was received. Personals Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Atkins and fam ily moved last week to Sanford from their farm home on Vass route 2. Warren Cox spt'nt a part of last week in Salisbury, Md.. with his sis ters, Mrs. M. B. W'iliis and Retha Mae Cox. Mr. and Mrs. Bryce Griffin and family and Mr.s. Richard Griffin of Hamlet visited in Sanford Sunday af ternoon. Mrs. W. B. Graham, Miss Katharine Graham and Mrs. C. P. McMillan Sipent Saturday in Raleigh. Miss Martha McKay of Lillington spent from Friday until Sunday with her sister. Mrs. A. M. Cameron. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Graham of Ruf fin, S. C., visited their sisters. Misses Kate and Eva Graham, and other relatives during the week-end. Mrs. W. D. McGill went to Clare mont Friday to be with her mother, who is ill. Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Ellis of Gra ham and Corporal Russell Thompson of Fort Bragg were week-end visitors in the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. K. Thompson. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Griffin and children of Hamlet and Mrs. Griffin’s mother, Mrs. S. W. Williamson of Tampa, Fla., spent Sunday with Mrs. G. W. Griffin. Mrs. Steve Mallard and little dau ghter. Merle, of Wallace visited Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Keith Saturday and Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. P. A. Wilson visited relatives in South Carolina Sunday. Miss Mary Smith spent last week with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Smith in upper Hoke County. PINEBLUFF the winter. Capt. and Mrs. G. S. Knapp and daughter, Patty, are occupying the Krugg cottage. Mrs. J. R. Lampley is spending this week In Norwood due to the Illness of her father, W. J. Melton. Mr. and Mrs. Rdwin Swan and daughter, Miss Lucy Swan, arrived here last week after spending the summer in Sherburn, N. Y. Friends of Mrs. Earl Lampley will be glad to know that she is getting along nicely after undergoing an op eration in Moore County Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. L. Galliger re turned to town Saturday after spend ing the summer in Pelmyra, N. Y. They are occupying the Packard apartnvent. Mrs. Ellen Howard of Biltmore, N. C., is a guest at the Pinebluff Tourist home. Mrs. Craig Pickier and Mrs. Ray Griffin spent Wednesday in Jones boro. Mrs. E. \V. Richardson returned to her home in Jitlanta, Ga..
