Four Accidents In County Reported By SHP Last Week
Four accidents, three of them
involving soldiers, were reported
by the State Highway Patrol over
the past week. All caused person-

serious.
The most serious landed seven
Negroes—^four soldiers and three
young women —in the hospital
last Wednesday.
James McNair, 25, lost control
of his new model car on NC 211
about one mile west of Aberdeen,
skidded sideways for some 300
feet and turned over three or
four times, according to the SHP
report. One girl, a tesident of
West Southern. Pines, suffered
two fractured ribs, a perforated
lung, a broken hip and a dislo
cated hip.
The other two girls in the ac
cident were injured though to a
lesser extent. All were taken to
St. Joseph’s Hospital.
McNair will be charged with
operating his automobile at an
excessive speed, the Patrol said.
In another accident, last Tues
day evening, Mrs. Ollie Ring,
wife of Robert Lee Ring of Route
3, Carthage, received a fractured
leg and head injuries when the
car in which she was a passenger
was struck by another as it wait
ed on the road shoulder.
I Cpl. Jim McColman, who in
vestigated, said the accident Oc
curred on the Union Church
Road just west ,of Vass.
George McCrimmon, 28, of
ITass, was operating the vehicle
that struck the Ring car. Cpl.
McColman said McCrimmon told
him he was blinded by the lights
of Ring’s car and was unable to
see where he was goin§.
! Mr. and Mrs. B. Parker, occu
pants of Ring’s car, also were in
jured, both receiving bruises and
abrasions.
All the injured were taken to
Moore County Hospifal.
Cpl. McColman has filed no
charges pending further investi
gation.
Specialist 3|c Ben Tillman Kay
of Southern Pines, suffered
minor injuries when his car,
travelling toward Fort Bragg on
East Connecticutt Avenue Exten
sion went out of control for some
347 feet and turned a somersault.
The accident happened Friday.
He was cited to appear in Moore
County 'Recorder’s Court for
driving at an excessive speed.
MiSgt. Harold T. Bruce, resi
dent ranger at station No. 5,
Camp Mackall, was slightly hurt
Thursday afternoon when the
MP truck he was driving toward
the camp went off the road and
overturned. ’The accident occur

were damaged to a considerable
extent.
Extension Service home econ
omists say convenient armage-
ment of work space can save the
homemaker 50 miles of walking
per year. The 20 to 30 days time
saved could be easily used to
handle 35 to 85 .hens and bring in
some cash income, they point
out.
The Department of Public
Health Nursing of the University
of North Carolina School of Pub
lic Health was organized in 1941.
