Barringer were at home Sunday and honored their father on his birthday at an out door picnic supper Sunday eve ning. Mr. Barringer recently retired as conductor on the Norfolk- Southern after serving 40 years. Mr. and Mrs, Barringer are vacationing this week in the Western North Carolina moun tains. Married 50 Years Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Vest were entertained at a reception at their home on Route 1, West End, Sun The meeting was opened with prayer by Mrs. John Cline- Mrs. Charles A. Cox gave some interesting highlights on four composers and Mrs. John Cline ^reviewed the life of Strauss. A piano solo, “The Blue Waltz,” by Morris was played by Miss Mildred Sinclair. Mrs. Colin Spencer, Jr., played the “Merry Widow’s Waltz” and a waltz by Charlotte Davis. A duet, “Invita tion To The Dance,” by Weber was presented by Mrs. L. R. Sugg and Mrs- H. G. Poole, and a piano solo, “On The Terrace,” Evans, by Mrs. H. J. Hall. Mrs. Harry Byrd of Branch- day afternoon, by their eight Mrs. Sam Deahl children, on their 50th wedding anniversary- Also present were 20 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Music Club The Carthage Music Club was entertained Friday night by Mrs. L. B. Womack and her mother, Mrs. R. L. Burns, at the Womack home on Sunset Drive, with Mrs. M. J. McPhail, president, presid- of Kenilsworth, Ill., were guests of the club. A frozen salad, sandwiches, and an iced drink were served. Mrs. Colin Spencer, Jr-, and Miss Ruth Tyson assisted Mrs. Womack in serving. C. Wal lace, on Pinehurst Drive. A large birthday cake, deco rated with pink rosebuds, topped with one candle, with Kelly’s name across the top, centered the table. Pink candles in silver candlelabra ‘ and pink streamers extending from the chandelier to the table completed the decora tions. Pink Dutch dolls, as favors, were given to the 12 little guests- Pictures were made of the group during the festivities. Individual iced cakes, ice cream and punch were served. Personals Mrs. S. V. Stevens and Miss Alberta Watson of Jonesboro Heights were Monday guests of Mrs. L. R. Sugg. Mrs. J. E. Muse has returned home after a visit with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr- and Mrs. George Muse, in Conover. Mrs. Harry Byrd of Branchville, S. C., who is visiting her sister, Mrs. E. C. Hines, in Sanford, spent the weekend here with Mrs. L. R. Sugg. Miss Margaret McQueen and Jack McQueen of Dunn and Miss Vera McLean of Cameron called on relatives and friends last Sun- <day- Bobby Hugh McCaskill, grad uate of UNC, will be a member of the high school faculty this year in Maxton. Mr. and Mrs. Holt McNeill are at home after an extended visit with Mrs. McNeill’s home folk in Dobson. Mrs. Frank Blue of Sanford spent the weekend with Mrs. M. J. McPhail. Mr. and Mrs. C- G. Spencer and their guests, Mr. and Mrs. U. S. Deahl and children of Kennil- worth, Ill., left Monday for a week’s stay at Topsail Beach as guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Spencer at their cottage. Miss Mary Spencer is home after a week’s visit with Miss Lynn Currie at her summer home in Montreat. Mrs. Harry B- Guant and chil dren, Tresa and Bart, of Lexing ton, Ky., are visiting her sister, Mrs. J. J. Hume, Jr. Stuart Verch of Slingerland, N. Y., is visiting his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Colin Spencer, Jr., and family. Miss Janet Williams of Eagle Springs is spending this week with Mrs- J. J. Hume. Mrs. Hugh Houser and Miss Milbry Ross of Charlotte were Sunday visitors in the O. U. Al exander home. Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Parker and daughters, Linda and Kay, spent the weekend in Newport News, Va., with Mrs. Parker’s sister, Mrs. Ralph Edgerton, and Mr. Edgerton- Mrs. O. U. Alexander went to Hamlet Sunday for a week’s vis it with her sister, Mrs. J. L. Richardson. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Jackson, Mrs. J. L. Wallace and Miss Jes sie Wallace spent the weekend at Myrtle Beach- They were joined for the weekend by Mr. and Mrs. Howard Auman and two daugh ters of Fayetteville. , Mrs. Dudley Pendleton and children of Richmond, Va., who have been visiting Mr. Pendle ton’s mother in Fayetteville for the past week, came over Sunday for a two weeks’ visit with her mother, Mrs. Charles A. Cox. REV. LEE PRIDGEN Rev. Pridgen To Talk At Brownson Chureh On Sunday The Rev. Lee Pridgen, mission secretary of the South Sandy Creek Baptist Association, will fill the pulpit at Brownson Me morial Presbyterian Church this Sunday in the absence of Dr. Cheves Ligon, the regular pastor. Mr. Pridgtn, whose home is in Southern Pines, is a former Army chaplain. He came to this area some months ago after be ing with the Raleigh Baptist As sociation for nine years. His Sunday talk will be based on personal experiences in the mission field in Africa, Palestine and Europe. Laubscher, Tax Collector Rites Conducted Saturday For Mrs. Flossie Fulp Funeral servces were held at the Methodist Church in West End Saturday afternoon for'Mrs. Flossie Furr Fulp, 65, who died at her home Thursday. The Rev. A. G. Tyson con ducted the services, assisted by the Rev. Pearce Layfield of Tabor City and the Rev. R. J. Hartman of Mt. Airy. Burial was in the West End Cemetery. Survivors include her husband, Elijah Fulp of West End. Her first husband, now deceased, was Will Furr. From that marriage survive six daughters; Pearl Furr of Route 1, Eagle Springs; Mrs. Willie Mae Brown and Mrs. Margaret Harris, both of West End; Mrs. Edna Crabtree of Southern Pines; Mrs. Betty Shef field of Newport News, Va., and Mrs. Helen Maness of Asheboro; six sons, Reid and Neil, both of West End; Archie of Hamlet; Robert of Sanford; Cprson of the Navy stationed at New London, Conn.; and Rchard of Durham; and 57 grandchildren.
