CHARLES CAMERON Methodist Meeting The general meeting of the Methodist WSCS was held at the church, Monday night, January 27, in the fellowship hall. Mrs. David Moe, president, presided. Committee and circle reports were heard. Study Course Following the business meeting, Mrs. Robert Coffey presented the first session of a second study course topic. “The Changing City Challenges the Church.” Mrs. H. A. Borst was in charge of the worship service. Circle 1 was hostess and served refresh ments. On Sunday evening, a second and final session was conducted. The leader was assisted by sev eral members at each session. Refreshments were served by Circle 2. Men of Church The men of the Vass Presby terian Church met Monday night with the new president, Delmus Kimball, presiding. Leon Keith presented the program: “Wor ship in the Service of God.” Mrs. Roger Marion and Mrs. Mack Blue served refreshments to the men. Celebrates Birthday Charles Brewer celebrated his seventh birthday last Monday, with a surprise party, when Mr. and Mrs. Donald Brewer enter tained Miss Womble’s first grade. All his classmates were given favors of party hats and horns. Refreshments of cup cakes, ice cream, peanuts, and candy were enjoyed. Attend Conference Attending the District Confer ence at the Methodist College in Fayetteville, on Monday, Janu ary 27, were the local pastor, the Rev. David Moe, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Coffey, Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Thomas and Miss Ethel Davis. The delegates were happy to see Mrs. W. D. Matthews, a life long member of the local Meth odist church. Mrs. Matthews, who resides at an apartment at the Methodist Retirement Home, Durham, attended as a represen tative of the home. Boy Scout Service The annual Boy Scout Union Service will be held at the Vass Methodist Church Sunday morn ing during the worship hour. The Rev. J. D. Hales, pastor of the Baptist Church will bring the message. Baby Shower Mrs. Arch Blue, Mrs. Raymond McLean, Mrs. Burton Danley and Mrs. Clarence Womble were host esses at a pink and blue shower honoring Mrs. Roy Blue at Mrs. Danley’s home Friday night. Games were conducted by Mrs. Charles Cameron, with prizes go ing to Mrs. Mack Blue, Mrs. Lewis Taylor, and Mrs. George Blue. The many dainty gifts were pre sented to the honoree from a pink chest. A pink and white color ar rangement was used on the re freshment table, which was cov ered with a white cloth. The host esses served refershments of cof fee, sandwiches, potato chips and cake squares to the 22 guests present. Birth Announcement Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Hinsley of Rock Hill, S. C., announce the birth of a daughter on Friday, January 31. The couple are for mer residents of the community and have two other children, Ricky and Ronnie. New Arrivals Mr. and Mrs. Baxter Prevatte, Sr. are the grandparents of a new arrivals. Mr. and Mrs. Edlly Ray Pre vatte of Sanford announce the birth of a daughter at Lee Me morial hospital on Tuesday, Jan uary 28. Mr. and Mrs. Baxter Prevatte, Jr. of Buies Creek announce the birth of a daughter on Friday, January 31. Wedding Announced Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Womble announce the marriage of their daughter, Diane, to Jerry Hardy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Coley Hardy of Cameron. Mr. Hardy is employ ed with the Telephone Company in Sanford. They are presently living with the bridegroom’s par ents. Attend Rally Seven MYF members and their leader, Mrs. James Key, attend ed the Sub-District Rally at the West End Church Monday night, January 27. An evening of fel lowship and refreshments was enjoyed. Personals Sunday dinner geusts of Mr. and Mrs. Roby Futrell and family were Mr. and Mrs. Worth Davis and Mr. and Mrs. James Dunn and daughter, Debbie, of Ophir. In the afternoon, they visited with Mr. and Mrs. Horace Mulli- nix and famliy. Sunday guests here with Mr. and Mrs. C. P. McMillan were her sister, Mrs. Herbert Banks, Mrs. Lena Allen, and the Rev. Bobby Abraham, all of Garner. During the day, they called on Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Edwards, Sr. Visiting with Mr. and Mrs. James Key Sunday were her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Avren Upchurch and daugh ter, Vickie Lynn, of Sanford. Johnnie (Red) Laubscher, who has been hospitalized in Orlando, Fla., was able to come back Sat urday to spend a while with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Laub scher. Johnny wishes to thank his friends for the cards and letters sent him while he was hospital ized. Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Laubscher were Mr. and Mrs. George Dickens and children of Lillington, and Mr. and Mrs. Dynum Seawell of Car thage. Mrs. Howard Gschwind, com munity chairman for the Heart Fund, attended the dinner meet at the Holiday Inn last Tuesday night. Mr. and Mrs. John Rosser and children, Ann, John and Robert of Charlotte, spent Saturday with his mother, Mrs. R. G. Rosser. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Cameron and sons, Randy and Craig, Mrs. Burton Danley and daughter Kathy, and Mrs. Clarence Wom ble and daughter, Lynn, were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. a#id Mrs. Archie Murphey and family of Greensboro. In the afternoon, they visited with other relatives. Mr. and Mrs. P. IT. Smith spent home here and visiting relatives. Misses Bobby Boggs and Bren da Scott visited Donald Blue at St. Joseph’s Hospital Sunday af ternoon. He is expected to return to his home in Southern Pines Tuesday. L. W. Sunday visitors here with Mr. and Mrs. F. R. Smith were Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Wray and son, Wayne, and the Rev. and Mrs. Bill West and family all of Greensboro. Mrs. W. P. Parker and Tommy Gschwind of Aberdeen visited Mir. and Mrs. Charles Gschwind Sun- day. Mr. and Mrs. Horace Mullinix, accompanied their daughter, Jeannette, to WCUNC, Greens boro, Sunday afternoon after she had spent a few days at home during semester break. Butch Grifin and Lynda Kaye Winfrey, students at We're, Cul- lowhee, were here for the week end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Griffin and family. Mrs. Charles Brewer, who is presently residing at Kemersville, is spending a few days at her morning and remains a patiet there. Sunday evening visitors with Mrs. George Stutts and Mrs. Sara Womble were Mr. and Mrs. Lee Jones of Bynum and Mrs. Ben Lane of Pittsboro. Of interest to the community is the enrollment of a Volunteer Fireman, James Alexander in a Fire Instructors Course at the lEC at Sanford. Mr. Alexander will soon complete a 30-hour course in fire fighting at the Center. Fire Chief P. T. Smith reports that his knowledge and training will contribute greatly to the de partment and community. As in the past he asks the continued sup port of all the citizens in giving way to the fire trucks and other equipment when an alarm is sounded in or out of town, and states that charges will be press ed against those following too close to the trucks and hampering services in fire fighing.
