the New-York Courier remarks
that the strong ground assumed by
the opposition, at the onset to the

on -removals irom oihee." In the
recent contest in New-Ilamnshim
a case was coriipletely made up
on inis particular ground, and a
verdict- a triumphant verdict
has been returned in favor of the
President's conduct. The coali
tion selected Jlr. Uoham. who had
just been removed from the Col-
.
icctorslup ot Portsmouth. They
asserted that this removal was one
of the most flagrant violations of
law that ever was perpetrated
that it was a manifest proscrip
tion a monstrous act of tyran
ny, &c. Under this flag they en
tered the field against Matthcy
Harvey, the Jackson demoratic
candidate. The whole contest
was decided on the principle of
removal from office, and the peo
ple after a full and active inquiry
into the merits of the case, have
decided by an increased majority
over that of last year, that the
President's conduct was just and
proper and right.

Domestic

Within the two days past, a num

civil officers, and consuls abroad,
are understood to have been con
firmed. Without yielding the
question, as to the right of the
Executive to create vacancies in
office for the purpose of mnkino

been conceived, by a majority of
the Senate, that the exnrrisft nf

have therefore been confirmed.

"Contrary to my first impression,
that nothing would be done with

on tea and coffee will be reduced
