Mrs. Ray Coodrr.jn, president of the Book club acted as master of ceremonies. Miss Elizabeth Parker, Miss Marjorie Gray Dunn and Mrs. Tom Skinner rendered a medley I of songs applicable to the “OH North State.” Mrs. Marvin Everett of Rober sonville was guest speaker. She gave a most interesting talk on “Tar on My Heels” by Bill Sharpe. Her review was well presented and as very few present had read the book, the interest was very keen during her entire talk. The club rooms were most at tractive, United States flags be ing used throughout the room and a lovely handmade silk North Carolina flag on the speakers’ table. Books by different North Carolina authors were on display as well as a scrapbook on the United Nations compiled by the Book Club during the part winter. A walnut book shelf inscribed in gold as “The Mary Ann Book shelf” was presented by the Book Club to the local library, in lov ing memory of Mary Ann Crock ett Brown, a departed member of the book club. Mrs. Iris Cook, very graciously accepted the bookshelf for the library. The thirty-six books read and circu lated by this club have also been j donated to the library. j A copy of ‘'River Treasure” by Margaret Hollowell Burgwyn and specially autographed by her for the book club was also donated to the library. This is one of the latest books by a North Carolina author. The Book club has made a do nation of a complete file of Life magazine from Pearl Harbor, De cember, 1941, to the present time, to the Williamston colored school. This comprises around 275 is sues. Music was rendered by Mrs. W. K. Parker and Mrs. Wheeler Mar tin. The audience joined in sing ing, "Ho for Carolina” and "Caro lina Moon.” After the program a social hour was enjoyed. The refresh ment table was lovely with Paul Scarlett rose;, in a silver bowl, red | candies in silver holders, with garlands of the red roses running the length of the table. The punch bowl was presided over by Mrs. P. B. Cone at one end of the table, while Mrs. Ray Goodmon served individual cakes, ; decorated with tiny North Caro lina flags, red and white mints and salted nuts from the other. Mi's. Henry Griffin rendered soft music during the social hour. Miss Pierce was the holder of the lucky number and was pre sented a box dusting powder as a door prize.—Reported. --1-— Return To Chicago Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Manning left for their home in Chicago Tuesday following a visit here with his mother, Mrs. Lennic Manning. Saundra made the trip to Washington from the Veterans of Foreign Wars Na tional Home in Eaton Rapids, Mich., where she lives with her three sisters and a brother. A portion of the proceeds from sale of the Buddy t Poppies each year goes to the V.F.W. National Home.
