The minutes of the proceedings of the morning session were canea lor read ana approved I he committee of seven to whom were referred tbe Reports of the President and Directors, and Resident Englueer, submitted through Gen. Mc Rae. their chairman, the following report of their deliberations : The Committee to whom was referred th,e Reports of the President and Engineer, respectfully submit, that they have had the samender consideration, and beg leave to report: Your committee aie unanimous in the opinion that (he affairs ot the Company have been ably and luithfuHy managed; that Its finances are in a heal thy conditio.!, and that Ihe prorperfs for the future are most encouraging to tho Stockholders. An Important feature in the transactions of the Company, and one which will agreeably disappoint many, is the fact shewn by tbe Treasurir's Kepoit, that the interest on the mortgage bonds and diher loans, has abstracted no part or the Company's capi tal, but has been fortunately met, slnvsi entirely,' by dividends on the stock subscribed to the Koud. Wlih respect to ihtt amount set down by the In vestigating committee, after paying bills payable, Ac, this much maybe said.towii: the sum of )B,9 7 79 t a liubilny of the Comuapy, and is pro pirly set down in the report of the inreiiutini! committee as such; but this amount Is pay sole in bonds at four years, under the act of Congiess ex tending tbe time for the payment of duties on Iron, and la payable in mail itrttce, as will be seen by the President's report; and, consequently, that amount of debt is not propei ly m down ss one for which the assets of the Company should be retained to meet. The committee, therefore, think that this sum thould be added to the assets ol the Company app'icable to the completion of ihe Road, or, which is the same thing, be deducted from debts to which such assets are applicable so that the amount would stsnd ss a sum available tor the c nstructlon ana equipment of the Koud. Vour committee fully concur in tho propriety of pushing the work across Eagle's Island, and ihe great Pee Pee, as those are points of tne greatest impor tance i and their early completion thould ben aub- juctof consideration, engrossing the labors of the mrcction, almost to tne exclusion of other portions of the Road. In order thai the means to effect ilu se objects may be raised, we fully concur in ihe recom mendation of the Pr side nt relative to the sale of additional ondst.. the amount ofliOO.000. i rcvl- ously authorized by the ttiockholdeia at ttulr meet ing in April, 1851.
