' V If t u f i 5 i J i' 3 , Some of our business men who set up a howl about people sending orders to de partment stores, have all their stationary printed away from home to save five cents. "Consistency, thou art a jew el. And s some people don't like some of the things they reads in this paper? Neither do we. But they are at liberty to pick out wha they don't like and leave the rest for one who is less fastidious. Do thev know what they call the man who sits down at a first class hotel dinner, and begin ning at the first item on the bill of fare tried to eat every dish mentioned thereon? This newspaper presents a varied bill of lare every week, but there is no law compelling them to devour every portion. Just put aside what you don't relish and say nothing about it. And don't swear at the ed itor. Its both wicked and foolish. You may disfigure barns and fences and rocks and roads, waste your money on so called business charts, and vainly imagine you are adver tising. But you are not. "The newspaper thar every week visits hundreds of homes, and is looked upon by its readers as a reliable friend and advis er is ths medium through which the wide awake busi ness man will speak to the people. Quack advertising the kind you bite on when a stranger comes around a great "scheme" is like quack med icine, the less you take of it the better. The man who ap preciates the value of news paper advertising, aad has business instinct tnough to know that all other methods are spurious, is the n;a.i who meets with success. For particulars address by letter, A. U. JiEWBERRY, Plymouth, N. C NhAV WAY TO TKST BALANCE OF AUTO Resourceful Dealer Mounts New Stude baker on Four fets of Scales. With increasing frequency during the pist two years, automobile sales men have beh called on to answer the question. '-How much does it weigh?" Buyers, especially those who have had motoring experience, have be come intensely alive to tho importance of weight and its propotion to power. They realize that, to a great extent, comfort ease ot steering, and the ec onomical maintenance of their cars in gasoline, oil and tires, depend on the absence of undue bulk and the even distribution of the car's weight. Nr can all prospective buyers be convinc ed without a visit to the scales As a lesson to his own staff, as well as a confirmation of printed inform ation, Warner M. Batercan. Stude. baker dealer at San Diego, Cal., push ed the weight question home in a con clusive manner by securing four sets of sea es and placing one under eaeh wheel of the firet five-passenger Stude baker ''Four" he received. So interest ing was the result that ' Mr. Bate man I lter transberred the scales and the car to his show window, as a leson to motorists and a demonstration not only of lightness but also of the perfect balance attained iu a modern type of Amencm design. The scales showep the total weierht of the car to be 2,372 1-2 pounds a re sult which amply made good the claim of unusual lightness for the car. I he heaviest load fell on she right rear wheel, the scale supporting which regiBtered 662 1-2 poubds. I he left rear load was 629: the neht front 552, and the left front 529 pounds. i no sum or the two ricrht-hand weights was 1,191 1-2; of the left 1,181, the right side being slightly heavier. due to the location of the large storage Dattery under tbe front seat on that side 1 hese weights were taken, of course witLout the presence of a driver on the left and without supplies of gasoline, oil and water, 11 of which are supported largely by the front wheels. With thse additions, and with a driver of average size at the vrfcel, it was found that the weights developed an almost perfect balance, all four wheels weighing practically the same. " Fully as striking a result is scored by the Studebaker "Six" which, like the "Four " has been designed with a careful regard to lightness and weight equalization.
