$11.00 per cord acid woo' 78. $5.00 per cor4 acid wood.
$1*85 bu. corn vs. 85c bu. corn.
$3.50 per day wages vs. $.1.50 per day wages.
Low taxes vs. High taxes.
The Democratic Party doesn’t have to advance any
other argument, than the above to convince reasonable,
sensible, honest and industrious people that Democratic
policies are better for the working man than Republican
policies.
If you are a manufacturer and make woolen goods,
cotton goods, furniture, leather, lumber or other manu
factured products, then the Republican principles of
government are what you want, but if you are a laborer,
farmer, teamster, a cattle raiser, a lawyer or a doctor,
then if you will use your good judgment and your good
sense, you will see that Democratic principles of govern
ment are the ons3 > \. ..nt to live under.
Under the Republican rule in this Country, wheat
has gone down to 85c and flour has gone up 80c on the
barrel, a<nd is still rising, in fact this change has taken
place since the passage of the Republican tariff bill, «md
you are going to find the prices of clothes, ) shoes, hats,
coffee, sugar and all the necessities of life are going to
rise, and the increase in price goes to the manufacturer,
while the man who raises the cattle and the wheat and
the com will get less and less for his producets.
Harding promised that he was going to reduce the
expenses of the Government, andst ill yet, it is costing
more to run the United States now in Times of Peace,
under Republican rule, than it cost to run the United
States in time of the great World War under Democra
tic Rule, and if Washington is too far away for you to
keep up ^/ ith figures as to what Congress is doing and
costing, jets skip from Washing to Brevard and see
what is hardening in Transylvania County.
Two years ago the Republicans claimed that the
Democrats were running up the taxes, and that if they
got into power that the Republican Commissioners
would save the tax payers much money, while as a fact,
what has happened, we find that the tax rate has increas
ed in this County over 18c on the 100 dollars of property
and the Republicans have nothing to show for it, while
the Democrats improved the Couft house, built a Jail
and did a lot of road building and road improvements.
Don’t simply pass this off and think it is Democratic
campaign thunder or Democratic Campaign lies, and
don’t take it from either Democrat or,Republican candi
dates, but go to the records in the Court House in Bre
vard and see where the Republican Commissioners have
increased the debt of the County nearly $150,000.00 in
the two years they have been in, and where they have in
creased the tax rates 18c on the 100 dollfirs worth of
property.

And the Republicans may try to explain how they'
had to do all this, but you will remember that they pro
mised you good people, when they asked you to vote for
them two years ago, that they would not increase ibe
indebtedness, and that they would cut down all the ex
penses, and they ought not to have made such a promise,
unless they knew they were able to carry out their pro
mise, and if they we^*e mi?.taken once, they can be mis
taken again. We a:^k you to go back over their record
of this County for the past thirty or forty years and you
will find every time that the Republicans have been in
power, that the tax rate has gone up and when the Demo
crats come into power the tax rate comes down, and still
yet, it has only been under Democratic Rule in Transyl*
vania County, that there have been any public improve
ments, with one exception, and that was the building of
the County . Home, which was done by the Repub
licans.
All that we ask the tax payers of the County to do, is to go Co
the books and see who has given the County the most economical
best Government. When the good mothers of Transylvania start their
children off to school each morning, we ask them to remember that it was
under and byDemocratic Government foresight and good business, tiuit
the schools of Transylvania have been improved, that the terms have
been made longer, that good school houses have been built and that the
younger boys and girls of this County are receiving an education tfial
will make them the equal of children in other counties and other states,
so that they will go out into the world prepared for whatsoever laboar
may be theirs.
We want you to look at the roads that have been built by the De
mocrats and see how the good pec^le of Boyd, which has now one good
rdad, are prospering and that road was built under Democratic admizsc&
tration, and we believe that the people of Dunns Rock and Cedajr
Mountain, and Little River and Eastato and Gloucster and HogbetcSc
wish to have the same kind of good roads in their townships and secticms-
and they will have to get it through the Democratic Administration^ for
as we remember it, the present head of the Republican ticket, (now a
candidate for the Legislature) took an active part opposing the buildme^
og good roads in Transylvania County a few years ago, and was the
chief cause of Transylvania County being unable to keep pace with Hett
derson. Buncombe, Haywood and other western counties, and the re>-
suit has been that these .other counties have grown and their citiren>w
prospered, while Transylvania has had to struggle ak>ng through thcr
mud, and the man with the money, who would have come here arad
bought our lands, and spent money in improvements, have been kept
away because we had bad roads.
We have no unkind word to say of the Republicans, but all we aak
is that the people of Transylvania, both men and women, look well iut
to the record of the Democratic Party and compai^e it with the record
the Republican Party in thb County, and if the voters are left alone we
feel sure that the intelligent citizenship of the Coiinty will rally to tibm
Democratic Party which stands, and has always s^ood, for Peace aiidl
Plenty, Progress and Prosperity. ^
