Hospital Is One Of Community's Most Outstanding Advantages ?- ? i ? ?? (By W. E. B REESE) Quite recently I was listening to a discussion of the opportunities of fered to investors in Brevard and Transylvania county and the parties engaged in the discussion were men of' more than state-wide reputation as business men and investors. Our many natural advantages were freely admitted and the only ques tions raised were as to some of our local enterprises such as hotels, schools, hospitals, etc. i One condition seemed to be of great importance and that was to otir. hospital facilities, and it is that feature which I want to call to ; the attention of the readers of The 1 News. 4 1 When sound business men take the question of hospital facilities into consideration before they formally investigate or invest in a community, it seems to me as if the necessity of : a first class hospital should be ser iously considered by us who live bere the year round. ! If cool headed, clear thinking bus iness men realize the necessity of a hospital, to take care of any illness or injury that may overtake their i m'ployes in the event they should decide to establish a manufacturing ;>lant in our county then we also hould see and realize the: value of a first class hospital, not for its mone tary value alone, but for its humani tarian uses and to be prepared to save the life or lives of our loved ones or of our neighbors. Brevard has a good hospital, one 1 THE RIGHT WAY TO TRAVEL is by train. The safest. Most com fortable. Most reliable. Costs less. Inquire of Ticket Agents regarding greatly reduced fares for short trips. SOUTHERN RAILWAY SYSTEM that is well equipped with modern surgical, electrical and scientific ap pliances and instruments, it is main tained in a thoroughly first class manner with a force of trained nurses and any physician can send or take his patients to it. And should be proud of it and support it This hospital is not endowed nor is it supported by any church or in stitution or organization and has to rely for its support and maintenance upon its patrons, and if the phy sicians of the county do not aid it by sending their patients who need hospital care to our own Home hos pital and if our own home people do not patronize it when they use a hospital, then the hospital will not pay expenses and can not become the great help to the sick and in jured. i The rich man can send his family to Johns Hopkins or Battle Creek or some- other well advertised and high priced hospital or sanitarium, but the man of small means and the day laborer must rely on our local hos pital or see his loved ones suffer, and perhaps die. We talk and write about "buying in Brevard" when a yard of calico or a pound of prunes are discussed, but when we think in terms of health and life for our families we seem to forget that principle, and still yet the same practice which will build up our stores and other business enter prises will also build up our hospital when applied to it. Go and examine our hospital, compare it with others and then if you need a hospital for. yourself or some one else see to it that you patronize the one we have and help to build it up and make it ope of the great hospitals of Western North Carolina.
