Carrier as hostess. Up } on acceptance of the resignation ol j Mrs. Harry Perry as president of Uw I Guild, Mrs. David Ward was elected I to the office of president. I Prior to the Guild meeting, the I Auxiliary session was held, at which t time several matters of business per t taining to the organizatoin were I transacted. Mrs. 0. L. Erwin re ported that a missionary box valued ? ut $23 had been sent to a mission ? -chool in McMullin county, Virgin ? .a. it was voted to send an addition 1 at $10 to the general mission fund. ? Several committee chairmen were ' ippointed, including Mrs. Harry Per 1 ry as chairman of the altar Guild, and Mrs. J. S. Silversteen as chair man of the calling committee for ".he month of May. A discussion was ?old as to the advisability of com Vning the Auxiliary and Guild into >ne organization, but it was decided ?to continue as formerly and give all lissionary money as free will of fings. The organization voted to ?^operate in any possible way in making Hospital Day a success. A short social period and refresh ments followed the business sessions. MRS. CARRIER ENTERTAINS WEDNESDAY CLUB Fifteen members of the Brevard Wednesday club and four guests were entertained on the afternoon of May 1 by Mrs. H. N. Carrier at her home, Rockbrook. Included in the routine business vas the reading of a letter from Mrs. Morris, of the Asheviile Moonlight chool, thanking the club for its do ition of $2.00 toward the illiteracy fund. The club voted to pledge $10 '>\v:ird Transylvania Hospital on Hospital Day. , Thi' program for the afternoon, in iiarge of Mrs. D. G. Ward, was on iie subject of the Merchant of Ven ice. Mrs. J. S. Silversteen told in an interesting manner the story of the play and something of its history. Refreshments were served during ' he social period, after which ad journment was made until May 15 to meet with Mrs. E. W. Blythe, with Mrs. F. P. Sledge as program loader. W. M. U. OF BAPTIST CHURCH HAS MEETING .May meeting of the W. M. U. of ill- Baptist church was held Tuesday fternoon in the church parlors. Ai: interesting program on the subject of Christianity's Contribu tion to World Progress was in charge of Mrs. Thomas Dodsworth, assist ed Ivy other members. The meeting was presided over by the president. Mrs. Roy Long. Plans were discussed and perfected for the -.11 -day- Asociational nfceting to be !i"ld at the local church on May 15. , METHODIST MISSIONARY SOCIETY MEETS Regular meeting of the Woman's Missionary society of the Methodist lunch was held in the ladies' par lor, of the church Thursday after noon. I ,\ fatter- of routine business were transacted, after which devotional* wure led by the president, Mrs. J. B. I'ickolsimer. Mrs. Cordia King was ii charge of the program, reading a naper on matters pertaining to prob lems in the home. A very interest >i'.: report was given by Mrs. A. H. Houston on the recent meeting of the annual missionary convention of Western North Carolina, which con vened in Winston-Salem, Mrs. Hous ton representing the local society at this meeting. Reid r were badiy damaged and several ap ple trees in other orchards were s blown down. There were numbers 1 and numbers of bit' trees all through the forest blown down, one falling 1 across the old mess hall of the state highway camp. This old hall has been used for some time as a place fer all kinds of crowds to gather. J We can't say that we are sorry that it is destroyed. ?
