Highlights of Rosman Fair The fair was a great success be cause of the co-operation cf the school and various communities of the county. Everything went off grand. The success of tne fair was tar beyond any expectations. AH the people who attended seemed to be very enthusiastic. The great com munity interest that was manifested indicated that a Transylvania Coun ty Fair would be a grand success. ? G. C. Bush, Prin. Rosman High School. Mr. Jones, county agent of Hen derson county, acted as judge for the agricultural exhibits. The fair was no bigger and better than I expected, for I knew our people would respond to a call for cooperation, but all the people semed surprised at the size and quality of our fair on so short a notice. ? J. F. Corbin, agriculture teacher, Rosman High School. Approximately 1500 people saw the exhibits at the Rosman Fair. One hundred beautiful, old-fash ioned quilts were on display. One of the most interesting things on display in the Science De partment was the apparatus by which water is purified. The Rosman School-Community Fair as observed Oct. 16, was the best fair I have ever worked in. Of the six fairs 1 have been connected with I received the best cooperation and good will of any from Transyl vania. I wish to thank each person or persons who helped to make the fair such a wonderful success. Next year we hope to have a still greater fair as this was only a beginning of what Transylvania people can do. ? ?Miss Grace Ketchem, Home Eco nomics teacher, Rosman High. The flower show had a profusion of dahlias and chrysanthemums. Many beautiful potted plants were also on display. I'll tell you, the people of the Rosman section are the salt of the earth ? G. C. Bush, principal RosmaD High. ; Big cakes, little cakes, white cakes, black cakes and almost every other kind of cake was found in the cake show at the Rosman Fair. The Rosman School and Commun- : ity Fair was a great success. This is Rosman's first effort to put on a 1 program of this kind. The public and scholo patrons seemed well pleas ed. ? Prof. Cline, Science instructor, Rosman High School. A display of agricultural pictures was very interesting. Some of them pictured life on the farm in the ^ Rosman section. Old people of the upper end of ' the county enjoyed seeing the beau tiful loving cup that was on display 1 in one of the Vocational Agricul ture rooms. It was won in 1929 by < the Rosman Chapter Young Tar Heel Farmers in a contest at the State Test Farm at Swannanoa. 1 Chief attraction in the livestock i section was a purebred Jersey bull and Jersey heifer. They were i bought a year ago in South Carolina. The bull is owned by Walter Glaz- ' t.-ner, and the heifer by Buren Hug- ' gins. i i NOTICE State of North Carolina County of Transylvania IN THE SUPERIOR COURT j Board of Commissioners of Transylvania County, N. Rosraan Young Tar Heel Farmers certainly must be learning carpen try if on can judge by the splendid tool closet on display at the fair. Glenn Whitmire had some fine ] Irish cobblers on display. The patch of potatoes frgm which they j were taken averaged" 240 bushels per acre for Glenn. I I consider it (Rosman Fair) one , of the best community fairs I have ' ever attended. It is impossible to es- / timate what it will be worth to i Transylvania County. Mr. Bush and j Mr. Corbin are fine community . leaders. ? J. B. Jones, superintend- j ent Brevard Schools. J. F. Corbin, head of the school agriculture department, reports this an example of the true spirit of cooperation that was shown by the people of the upper end of the county in making the Rosman Fair a success: Mr. Tinsley Brown, of Gloucester, proposed to drive a calf the eight miles from Gloucester to Rosman and also drive it back. It would have taken him four hours each way. Garter snakes, water moccasins, ! starfish, crawfish, purple sea-urchins, ! grasshoppers, rainbow trout, sala- ! manders, toads, earthworms, frogs, tarantula spiders, terrapins, butter- . flies, and a great big rattlesnake were among the many things to be , found in the Biology display. Many ( a person had the creeps that day looking at them. Chief attraction of the morning J program was the concert of the Toy j Symphony Orchestra, under the di- ; < rection of Miss Clio Jamison, head of j j the Rosman Music department. The ! ( Toy Symphony Orchestra had 35 ^ pieces, including bells, drums, etc. j, Julian Glazener, head of the agri-jj culture department of the Brevard ^ High School, delivered an inspiring I ( address at the morning assembly of.( the Rosman Fair. The community booths were won- < derful pictures of bounty and beauty. A fine spirit of friendly rivalry was in evidence. Mountain people are noted for their great community pride as wel! as their in dependence. The exhibits at the Rosman Fair added another bright page to the history of celery growing in Tran sylvania county.
