and Mrs. R. D. Cowan of Greens

Capt. Sam C. Allison and Mrs.
Allison announce the birth of a
son on January 29 at their home at
Losse Field, Puerto Rico. Capt.
Allison, the son of Mrs. Cary Alli
son, has been stationed for the past
year with the medical corps of the
U. S. Army in Puerto Rico. Mrs.
Allison and their three children
have been with him most of that
time.

of Tuckaseigee have announced
the birth of a daughter on Thurs
ray, February 5.
Mr. and Mrs. Hal Watson of East
LaPorte have announced the birth
of a son on Sunday, February 8.
Austin Hooper, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Troy Hooper of Tuckaseigee
is seriously ill in the C. J. Harris
Community hospital at Sylva after
an operation several days ago.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hattie
Brown Beck, 61, who died sudden
ly Thursday morning at her home
near Barkers Creek, were held !
Saturday, February 7th, at the 1
Barkers Creek Baptist church with
Rev. Ralph Bradley, the pastor, of
ficiating. Burial was in the Keener i
cemetery at Sylva.
Mrs. Beck, who was born October
26, 1886, was the daughter of the
late Henderson and Margaret
Gates. She was a member of the
Barkers Creek Baptist church.

I W. J. Beck; three sons, Ebb Brown,
of Sylva, and Thurman and Hubert
Brown, of Barkers Creek; three
daughters, Miss Julia Brown, Bar
kers Creek, Mrs. Minnie Ward.

Ward, Candler; five brothers,
Frank, Fred, Lawrence. Oscar and
Ora Gates, all of Sylva; three sis
ters, Mrs. Lela Baker and Mrs.
Cora La wing, Dillsboro, and Mrs.
Maggie Montieth of Sylva; six
grandchildren and one great grand- !
child.

flower girls.

On Friday morning the senior
class of the High school sponsored
the movie, 'Torn Sawyer", and
gave the performance for the Ele
mentary school children. It was
thoroughly enjoyed by the children
as Tom Sawyer is still a favorite
character of most of the young
folks.
On Friday afternoon at the reg
ular chapel hour Miss Evelyn
Sherrill's third grade had the pro
gram and presented the play "Cin
derella", in an excellent manner.

Mr. Isaac Hensley, 78, of Dills
boro, passed away on Tuesday.
January 27, after having been ill
for several months.
