Our energetic Mayor hands as the fol lowing letter received by him : Waldo, Fla., April 26, 1896. Hon. W. S. Cook, Mayor, Fayetteville, N.C.: Dear Sir : I received a circular letter from you some time ago giving a descrip tion of your city. I wish to say that I am very well pleased with it, and have con cluded to spend this summer there with my wife. We are unencumbered, and have concluded to board during the summer if we can get comfortable quarters at reason able rates. We want a nice quiet place, a good front room, plenty of fresh air. We are both getting a little old but not cranky (not hard to please). Would not object to a suburban place if desirably sit uated. If not asking too much of you would like for you to hand this letter to some party who could accommodate us, and tell them to correspond with me im mediately, giving description, location, &c, also the price for board per month. We wish to leave here between the 15th and 20th of May. Respectfully. A. W. Monroe. Latest Newi from all Parts of the World, Pre pared Especially for the Headers of "The Observer." The Secre tary of the Populist State committee says Democrats and Populists in the eastern coun ties are fusing on the silver question. Sub-Alliances of the Farmers' Alliance are endorsing the refusal of the Populist commit tee to fuse with the Republicans. There was a big Republican meeting in Raleigh Wednesday night; Judge Russell was one of the speakers; in trying to explain away his "negro savages" letter, he said the statement did not apply to intelligent negroes. The Pennsylvania Democrats hold their State con vention ; they adopt a gold standard revenue tariff platform and present Robert E. Patti son as . Pennsylvania's candidate for "Presi dent. The Mississippi Democrats met in State convention, appoint their delegates to the Chicago convention, instructed to cast their votes as a unit, adopted a strong free silver platform, recommended Senator E.
