Local Spoutsman Catches Large Bass Last Week J. Bewley Tweed, local spouts man (sportsman), caught a five pound large mouth bass which was over 22 inches long Wednes day afternoon of last week. When asked where he was fishing, he hesitated and then said he and "Slowly Sam" Rudasill were fish ing with night crawlers up at Raymond Ramsey's pond "way beyond East Fork." The bass was displayed at Dod son's store by Bewley as proof of his fishing trip. Federals Charge Madison Youths Three Madison County juveniles were placed under $600 bond Thurs day by federal oficers in Ashe ville on charges of breaking and destroying government property at the Rich Mountain fire tower near Hot Springs shout May 17. The youths, who turned them selves in to the U.S. marshal's office here Thursday, waived pre liminary hearing before U. S. Commissioner Lawrence C. Sto ker. They will ha triad at the next term of U. S. District Court. Accomplish ment Award given to ouetanding seniors in vocational agriculture departments. To receive this award, he excelled in scholarship, leadership and farm program ac tivities during his four years in high school. Everette to the eon of Mr and Mrs. Newt Mass of Marshall. Lion-of-Year I-red II. Thomas LION-OF-YEAR AWARD GOES TO FRED H. THOMAS Fred H. Thomas was recently announced as the winner of the seventh annual Erwin District Li-on-of-the-year Award Thomas was presented a trophy in connection with the club's ob servance of its ninth annual char ter night anniversary program in the Clyde A. Erwin High School Cafeteria. Thomas is owner and operator of the Thomas Cabinet Shop on the Old County Home Road and resides on Asheville Itt. ' He is a native of Madison Coun ty, the son of Mrs. Frank Thom as of Marshall Rt. 4, and the late Mr. Thomas. He is a brother of Mrs. J. H. Hutchins of Rt. 4. A committee had selected Thom as as the member who had com piled the best all-round record in community service activities for the club year ending June 30. He has served as building cap tain for the West Buncombe Vol unteer Fire Department and has been selected as third vice presi dent to serve during the 1965-66 club year beginning July 1. Thomas has served this club year as committee chairman of Other Club Activities consisting of benefit turkey shoots, ham supper, and Sunday dinner at school. Joining the club on Sept. 28, 1961, the award winner has been a member of these committees: sight conservation, eye bank, Unit ed Nations, and Agriculture. Thomas maintained perfect at tendance for the 1963-64 and 1964 65 chib year and has been active in the annual White Cane Drive and other community service ac tivities. Vows Are Spoken In Marion Baptist Church Saturday Afternoon Miss Brenda Gail England and Arthur Eldridge Leake, Jr., were married Saturday, June 26, 1965 at 4:00 o'clock in Clinch field Bap tist Church of Marion. The Rev. ferry Delano England of Califor nia, brother of the bride, perform ed the ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. p. England of Marion, aid the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Leake, Sr., of Marshall. .The church was decorated with baskets of white gladioli flanked by white candelabra. A program of wedding music was presented by Mrs. Ronnie Owens of Mars Hill, organist; and Mrs. Richard Johnson of Winston Salem, sister of the bride, vocal ist. Mrs. Johnson sang "Entreat Me Not To Leave Thee," "0 Per fect Love" and "The Wedding Prayer." The traditional wedding marches were used. Given in marriage by her fa ther the bride wore a floor-length gown of peau de soie with a bell skirt which extended into a chap el train, scoop neckline and long pointed sleeves of chantilly lace. The waist was encircled with a cummerbund and accented with a bow at center back. Her veil of illusion was attached to a crown of aurora crystals and pearls. Bridesmaids were Miss Fredia Elaine Bailey of Asheville and Mrs. Joseph Sheridan Spray, school of nursing classmates of the bride. They wore street-length dresses of yellow organdy over taffeta, featuring bell skirts with cummerbund at waist and bow at center back and scoop neckline. Their headpieces were of yellow net centered with daisies and they carried bouquets of yellow daisy pom poms. Best man was Nicky Roberts of Marshall, and ushers were Lar ry Leake of Marshall, brother of the bridegroom; and Joseph Sher idan Spray of Durham. Pamela Lynn Johnson of Winston-Salem, niece of the bride, was child attendant. She wore a grown identical to that of the bride, a crown of pearls and illu sion and carried a small cascade of daisy pom poms. Mrs. Leske is a graduate of Marion High School and Memorial Mission Hospital School of Nurs ing. She is on the staff of N. C. Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill. Mr. Leake is a graduate of Mar shall High School and is new a fourth-year student of Medicine at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. They will live in Chapel Hill.
