has earned a doctor of musical
arts degree in performance
and pedagogy from the
Eastman School of Music of
the University of Rochester,
N. Y.
The degree, which caps a 11
year span of graduate study
by Rich, will be awarded this
June in Rochester.

after a long illness.
She was a native of Madison
County, had lived in Bun
combe County for 45 years and
a retired Buncombe County
school teacher.
Surviving are the husband;
a daughter, Mrs. John S.
Vandiver of the home; a
sister, Mrs. Sherman Tweed,
Mara Hill; a brother, Rollins
Jarvis of Mars Hill; and two
grandchildren.
Services were held at 2 p jn.
Thursday in Piney Mountain
Baptist Church, of which she
was a member.
The Rev. M. H. Kendall
officiated. Burial was in the
church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Charles A.
Tweed, Spurgeon Aldredge,
Richard, Johnny and Jerry
Dillingham, Edward Hamlin
and Owen Elkins.

Thanksgiving baskets to
needy families.
Mrs. Harris was known in
her area for the preserving
and freezing of her home
grown vegetables and fruits,
which she shared with friends
and neighbors.
Surviving are the husband,
Clarence L. Harris; the
mother, Mrs. Jane Edwards of
Marshall Rt. 2; a sister, Mrs.
Arthur Bass of Mars Hill; and
a brother, Paul Edwards of
