More Errors Showing
Up On Tax Forms
The third and fourth grade girls Youth
League basketball team won first place in the
Twin County tournament.
The little cagers defeated Marshall in the
finals on a foul shot by Christy Grigg after a triple
overtime, the final two overtimes being a "sudden
death" situation.
The team finished the regular season in se
cond place. The girls were coached by Pat Worley
and Rhonda Mace, and sponsored by Farm Credit
Service.
North Carolina taxpayers
are making more errors on
their Federal tax returns this
year, the internal Revenue
Service says, mostly in
arithmetic and the wrong tax
table.
A doublecheck of all figures
should help reduce the math
errors, the IRS says, but a lit
tle more care should be taken
in using the tax table.

Most taxpayers can use the
tax tables, rather than the tax
rate schedule which is more
difficult. To reach the correct
tax figure, find the tax table
which fits the filing status
(single, married, etc.) and
locate the taxable income line.
At the top of the table the
number of exemptions are
listed and where this figure
crosses with the taxable in
come, this is the correct tax. If
the figure is smaller than what
was withheld, the taxpayer is
due a refund. If it is larger, ad
ditional tax is owed and the
IRS is due a check.
Any error, whether in
arithmetic or using the wrong
tax table, can slow up a re
fund, the IRS says.
