LINES tmintnt Awlfcoriry and Chief M4cl Dircctar NB Yirk Lift Imwimi M)! ! 1 PLANNING YOUR VACATION "1 VACATIONS and holidays are magic words that conjure up in our mind? all the pleasures of travel and change, all the excitements of new places and,' 8t range faces.and all the rest and relaxation that come from temporary release from the drudgery and cares that are .helot of all of us in one way or another.1 Hut they 6hould also be planned Or, if you do physical work the year round, then seek a holiday of relaxation, and perhaps study and read a bit to exercise the mental processes. Some men enjoy the quiet, solitude that comes from fishing. Travel for those who can afford it provides an excellent means of obtaining cultural and educational advantages. Get away from home if you can. If you can't, remember' that m my people can get more good from spending their vacations at home loafing than those who tirt themselves out going away. Whatever your vacation program may be, don't make it too futigui.ii, or strenuous. You sh iuld plan to build up a reserve of mental al physical energy that may be calh J upon during the ensunu year. j in mind that change an 1 moderated are the two essentials of a proritab. vacation. vn eye towards me laci mat they are intended to build us up for the next year's work. Too often people work bo hard having a good time that they come home all played ou-, needing the rest they should have La' 1 on their vacation. Fven worse is the idea that we nr. forget everything but fun and .K -.sure. Of course banishing busi-sc-s worries and spending your vacation in the proper mental atti tu I. ."ire among the first essentials to pe ing the most out of your holidays. But it is also wise to use a little forethought to prevent the accidents at. 1 illnesses that can so easily spoil a vacation and turn a good time into ' & tragedy. i Change and Moderation In planning your vacation, remem ber that in many respects "a change is j,s good as a rest." Don't spend y. .r holidays like the sailor who went b. '..i, a, or the mail-carrier who took t ! .r.i! walk. If possible, do just the e ;-.-.-ite from your usual round of ctiviues. Tor example, if your occupation is a se-ientary one demanding great ex; -.-ri.iiture of mental energy, plan a vacation of mild physical activity, free from all strain. Golf, tennis, swimming, baseball, hiking, and fimilarphysical pursuitsin moderation are Suggested. Don't begin- too , vigi -r. usiv. Exercise should leave a j feeling of pleasant fatigue, rather than exhaustion, which is dangerous to health. This is (he fir.-t of a f tries of 12 articles on 'aait:-h.i atvi Health.
