F F F G G G ine-up: F F C ; ; The Missionary Institute of the Waynesville district of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, held the annual all day session on Monday, in the First Methodist church, with the presiding elder, the Rev. W. A. Roll ins, presiding. The Waynesville dis trict includes the eighty-seven church es in the territory from Canton to Murphy, most of which sent repre sentatives. Rev. L. B. Abernathy, of Elkin, sec retary of the Western North Carolina Conference Board of Missions, made the principal address. He spoke on evangelism, and of the great need of revivals in the churches of today. He explained at length the plans being worked out by Dr. E. K. McLarty, with the program including at least one or two meetings to be held in ea.h district, during the year, with the probability of Canton and Way nesville being selected for the meetings. The Rev, W. A. Barber, of Murphy, spoke on loyalty and evangelism. He emphasized the importance of the church members' loyalty to the ac tivities of their congregation and the place evangelism held in the church program. Dr. D. C. Camack, of the First Meth odist church, of Canton, addressed the group on the place of the mission ary committee in the local church, and the function of this committee under the leadership of the pastor. Miss Lura Wright, of Canton, spoke on the Golden Cross, and gave some interesting facts relative to the work of this group in the thureh. Rev. W. A. Rollins brought the closing message, in whieh he outlined the entire responsibilities of the churches, including the financial, be nevolent, and spiritual activities. Missionary literature and posters were distributed at this time for use among the churches. At noon the women of the church served lun h in the banquet hall. 1 hose attending the all day session were the pastors of the various churches and the chairmen of the committees on missions. USING HIGHWAY FUNDS Last Thursday Governor Ehring haus allotted a million dollars from the state highway -fund surplus for additional improvements to county roads and the establishment of an industrial plant at central prison at Raleigh. The textile industry is enjoying the liggest rush of business it has ex- perieneed, it was indicated -by a sur vey recently made from New York City. A reiord world consumption of 2,4-29,000' bales of cotton in October was reported by the N'ew York Cot ton Exchange service. The survey showed that orders are being receiv ed at such a rapid rate, they cannot be filled for several months, while prices are (skyrocketing. Some mills are so. far behind that they are not taking any more -.orders. Be it ordained by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the Town of Hazel wood, as follows: Section 1. That pursuant to Chap ter 56, sub-chapter 111, Article 26, Consolidated Statutes of North Caro lina, the issuance and sale of $9,000.00 in bonds of the Town of Hazelwood, North Carolina, is hereby authorized for the purpose of constructing or re constructing the surface of roads, streets and highway and the contem poraneous construction or re-construction of sidewalks, curbs, gutters and drains, including the grading and regrading of the streets, sUvh surface being of water-bound macadam and penetration process, and the issuance and sale of $1,000.00 in bonds of the Town of Hazelwood, North Carolina ' is hereby authorized for the purpose ' of constructing bridges and culverts and including the construction of re taining walls and approaches for the same, all of which purposes set out above being related and being a part of one project for the repair and gur-1 facing of the streets of the Town of Hazelwood. Section 2. That a tax sufficient to pay the principal and interest of the bonds hereby authorized shall be an nually levied and collected. Section .3 That a statement of the debt of the Town of Hazelwood has been filed with the clerk of the said Town and is open to public inspection. Section 4. That said bonds shall be issued in denominations of $1,000.00 each and shall bear interest at the rate of 47c per annum from the date thereof payable semi-annually, and shall be numbered from one to ten consecutively, and shall mature as to p.imipal serially, that is to say, one bond in the denomination of $1,000.00 each year, the whole issue to mature within ten years from the date of issue; said bonds shall be made pay able at the office of the treasurer of the Town of Hazelwood or at some other place mutually agreed upon be tween the Board of Aldermen of the Town of Hazelwood and the purchaser. Section 5, That the issue of bonds hereby authorized is for a necessary expense as shown by the above in paragraph one. : Section fi. That said bo'ndg shall be signed on behalf of the Town of Ha zelwood by the Mayor and attested by the clerk of said town and the corpor ate seal impressed thereon. Section 7. That this ordinance shall take effect when approved by the vot ers of the Town of Hazelwood at an election as provided in the said law. The foregoing ordinance was passed on the! 1st day of December, 1936, and was first published on the 10th day of December, 1936.
