Hipps, who is assist ing with the Mission Study week at the First Baptist church, was the guest speaker at the regular chapel period at the East Way ville elementary school on Tuesday morning. Dr. Hipps, who is a returned mis sionary from China, taught in the mission schools there for a number of years. He gave many interest ing facts about the country, and spoke briefly in the Chinese lang guage, followed by a translation. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Campbell have as their guest the latter 's mother, Mrs. S, E. Hollis, of Greenville, S. C. They also had as their guests recently Miss Vir ginia Hollis, and Mr. and Mrs. Eugene DeHart, also of Greenville. Mrs. Howell Messer, of Valdese, spent the week-end here with Mr. and Mrs. Jess Messer and family. L. Bramlett, president of the class. The class, which is the adult women's group of the Sunday school, is inaugurating a member ship drive and the officers are anx ious that all members should be present on Sunday morning. Miss Norma Jane Burgin spent the week-end at Mars Hill College with her sister, Janette, who is a student there. ..' Mr. and Mrs. Frank Underwood and two children, Carol and Ken neth, spent the week-end in New ton with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Tillman Fisher. of Norfolk, Va., are visiting rela tives in Hazelwood this week. Mrs. S. H. Bushnell left yester day for Reidsville, where she will yisit her niece, Mrs. Jimmy Trot ter. From Reidsville she will go to New Bern, where she will visit her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Sam H. Bushnell, Jr. Miss Betty Patton has gone to Daytona Beach, Fla., where she plans to spend the winter With her aunt, Mrs. J. M. Anderson. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Knight, of Newport News, are visiting rela tives in Hazelwood. W. Q. Sheehan has returned after a visit to his son, Talmadge Sheehan, who is now stationed at Camp Gordon. She had as her subject, "What Good Nutriton Can Do." Others on the program and their, mihiecta were; Mrs. W. P. White- sides, "who taked on "What We Can Do;" and W. P. Whitesides, who discussed the proposed bill of the state board of education. Mrs. Connatser's first grade won the attendance banner for having the largest number of parents present. Methodist Women To Observe Week Of Prayer With All Day Meeting The women's society of Chris tian Service of the First Metho dist church will observe the annual Week of Prayer on Thursday, the 29th, with an all day meeting at the church. The members are asked to assem ble at 10:30 and to bring their own lunch. The meeting will be held in the dining room of the church. Mountaineers Go To Hendersonville For Game Today A large nnmber of fans expect to accompany the Mountaineers to Hendersonville this afternoon when the two teams will meet in their annual gridiron game, on the Hen dersonville field. The Hendersonville Bearcats have been playing some good ball this season, rolling up some scores, and are expected to give the Moun taineers a hard fought game. The Mountaineers came out of he Canton game in good condition, tnd tapered off with light practice yesterday in preparation for the Bearcats. Last Rites For Paul Green Held Wed. Funeral services were held Wed lesday morning at 11 o'clock at the esidence for Paul Green, 21, son if Mr. and Mrs. Walter Thomas 3reen at their home near Lake Ju laluska. ' The Rev. C. H. Green, pastor of the West Canton Baptist church officiated. Burial was in the Sunset Park cemetery in West Canton. Serving as pallbearers were: Fred Messer, Tom Messer, Fred Mrs. J Harden Howell is vis iting relative in Washington, D. C, Atlantic City, Philadelphia, and points in Virginia.
