Auxiliary To Meet The Asheville Division of Wo man's Missionary Union Auxiliary of the North Carolina Baptist Con vention will hold its annual meet ing on October 31, in Calvary Bap tist church in West Asheville, ac cording to an announcement made this week by Mrs. J. R. Morgan, of Waynesville, president. Visiting speakers on the pro gram include Miss Kathleen Mal lory, of Birmingham, Southern W. M. N. U. corresponding: Miss Rose Marlow, returned missionary to China, and Miss Katherine Alice, state W. M. U. Young Peoples leader, from Raleigh. Reports from the divisional of ficers, special music and general in spiration features will make up the program, in addition to the speak ers. The division embraces the follow ing counties: Buncombe, Hender son, Madison, Transylvania, Hay wood, Mitchell and Yancey coun ties. All churches in this area are expected to send representatievs and pastors regardless of whether or not they have organized into societies of W. M. U. Serving with Mrs. Morgan are the following officers: Mrs. E. R. Elmore, of Mars Hill, secretary treasurer; Mrs. J. 0. Crenshaw, In Marines W JUNALUSKA METHODIST CHURCH Pastor, Miles A. McLean Sunday school at 10:00, with R. H. Terrell, superintendent. Church service at 11:00, at which time, the pastor will speak on the topic, "Witnessing for Christ." There will be an anthem by the choir. PARTON, USMCR, formerly of Clyde, was promoted to his present rank in Augist. Sgt. Parton took his basic training at San Diego, Calif., and from there was transferred at an advanced aviation training base on January 1 of this year, which was located in Majone, Calif. He successfully completed an advanced course in engine maintenance at N.A.T.T.O., Chicago on September 1. He is a member of the famous fighter Marine Squadron V. M. F. 213, known as the "Hell Hawks." No. 1, has been awarded a Certificate of Honorable Service by Rear Admiral William R. Fur long, Commandant of Pearl Harbor Navy Yard. Though no longer at this Pacific Naval Base, he has been awarded the certificate by Admiral Furlong in recognition ol nis laitniul woric and contribution to the war effort while in Pearl Harbor as a civilian employi e. The certificate states that while he worked for the United States Navy at Pearl Harbor dur ing the Second World War, his services contributed to the mission of the base in support of the United States Fleet. FRANKLIN, JR., fireman first class, son of Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Franklin, of the Bal sam Road, recently spent an 11 day leave here with his parents. He had just returned from several months of sea duty on a mine sweeper. Fireman Franklin volunteered in the Navy 18 months ago and was inducted at Norfolk, and sent to Bainbridge, Md., for his boot train ing. He was transferred to Nor folk after completing boot and then assigned to sea duty. He left here to report to Boston, Mass. Before entering the service he was employed by the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company as a mechanic. TSgt. J. D. McCIure Completes 25 Missions Tech. Sgt. James D. McCIure, son of Mr. and Mrs. James F. Mc CIure of Waynesville, who is serv ing with the Air Forces in Europe, recently has been given a well earned rest after 25 missions as a ball turrent gunner on a B-17 Fortress, and will be returned to the States. Before he left the European war theater he was awarded the Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters and the Distinguished Flying Cross. Women's Club Will Honor Girl Scouts In Scout Month The Waynesville Woman's Club will honor the Girl Scouts at their meeting on Thursday afternoon which is being held at Oak Park at 3:30 o'clock with Mrs. John M Queen, M. Stanley F. Brading and Mrs. R. V. Barker serving as hostesses. Mrs. .E. C- Wagenfeld, Scout leader will have charge of the pro gram and will present Miss Vir ginia Griffin of Asheville, an asso ciate worker of Girl Scout, Inc. of America, who will speak to the club on the part that Girl Scouting plays in the life of a girl.
