Hazelwood now is over the hump with 11 games played ami only 10 in the Industrial League schedule, coming up Saturday alttinooii they take a trip to Canton to play the Champion Y team that Marled out weak in the Leani.-. but h;is shown better play of lale Then the following week-end ;i thrc. game series at horn " begin.--, open ing with Beacon Mills. H.-ieon has been running strong thiuin l i ut the season, and Hazelwood liarcL mm 6-5 when the two teams mot then first time. Tuesday tin Beacon team played at Ecusta and vwm 5-2, their game being rained out last Saturday. The following week ends Sayles Biltmore and Knka re turn to the local field. The records give Hazelwood the nod over all teams, but an ofT day wilh any of them might break thai undefeated record. Even the big league teams have their off days, but llacluood always has been able to tighten up when they do make a mistake in the field. And the pitchers have enough confidence in their backing to let the heavy hitters walk and take the better chance of catching the fly poppers. Like Wednesday in the last inning against Martel, when Burrell walked DeHiuhl. White who was next up hit a grounder to Shook who snapped it to Glen Wyatt and the double play was completed to Eugene Wyatt at first. Martel then got three singles, but made not a score when Gibson hit a ground ball to Shook for a play to retire the side. WHILE on the subject of the Hazelwood team, note the pitching records of Bud Bla loek and J. C. Burrell that Un official scorekeeper, Ruins Gaddis worked out. It shows the hits, runs, bases on bulls (walks) and strikeouts made by the opposition: and is printed elsewhere on this page. PLEASE don't accuse the Big Creek Ranger for the mistake that turned up in our ilem regarding the big rainbow trout taken out of the stream July 4th. Our inten tions were to sav Hi'i inches long, not 16' i pounds. Some one j dropped by to let us know that t they had been fishing for a mighty long lime, ana naa yet lo see a trout that big. It's just that our typewriter jams when writing about fish stories and slipped in the word pounds when what we intended was inches. WE were asking Rufus lial cliff about the new uniform he is to get for his duties as game warden. He was meas ured for it recently, and says it's a fine dress uniform. It'll make him look like a New York State Trooper, he says, but he doesn't like the straight pants. They're okay to wear at a banquet, but no good out in the woods when snow is a couple of feet high. Canton lasl week ran up a 4 2 win over Enka and will be tak ing their third crack at 1 lacluoud including their noil league game ot July 4lh -when the two teams eel together Saturday afternoon. Bud Blaloek, who took a rest dur ing most of the Martel game, seems likely lo do the mound chores at Canton. The first home run knocked on Hie high school held was hit by Hill Milne.' in Hie seventh inning ol the Mallei game It was a long drive back past the cent erlielder, and Bill had to do some fast run- I mug to beat the throw in dupli cating his circuit clout in the game against Green River.
