Music was provided hy the Can ton high school band under the direction of Robert Matthews. Dan Cook sang a special solo. All Gold Star mothers and fath ers were honored at the memorial services. The Rev. C. W. Klrhy made the invocation. The firing squad of the VFW post commemorated the day with an honorary volley. The granite memorial which was presented in the ceremonies is 1H feet long and 6 feet high, the big gest stone of its kind in this section. Gum arable comes from acacia trees. 5 Missing Words Changes Meaning In Weill Article In the article describing Leo Weill's recent trip to Europe, the wrong impression was given about people in Salzburg. Austria, as Ihree descriptive words were left out. The sentence should have read; "At Salzburg l stopped for a short time, and going out of the train, 1 saw the first victims of the war., Hundreds of displaced per sons were sitting outside the depot waiting for a tram to go to a camp. When 1 saw these people looking like frightened dogs, nothing on their bodies but iin old suit and their baggage in an old sack " The Mountaineer regrets the words "first victims of the war" were left out of the paragraph. Stone Re-Elected President Canton Exchange Club John W. "Pinky" Stone was unanimously elected for a second term as president of the Canton Exchange Club last week in the organization's regular meeting in the YMCA building. Mr. Stone was the club's organ izer and first president. He has led most of its activities during the past year. Guest speaker at the meeting was Howard L. Wells, Interviewer at the Canton office of the State Employment service. He told the members of the service the em ployment office gives the commun ity, and urged them to use its fa cilities whenever possible, ,Other officers elected at the program were A. B. Uzzle, vice president; Troy Bradley, secretary; and Ted Furness, treasurer.
