To get salvation from sin and a new life with divine guidance there are three steps. 'ii Sliow true repentance for your sins, humbly confess (hem to God, accept the divine pardon of fered through Jesus Christ. The most important prayer to pray here is God be merciful to me a sin nor I'ray it and mean it. That gets rid of yesterday .with its sins This is an act of the1 Will. 2i Now surrender your will to God Pray next. "Not my will, but Thine be done." That puts God in the center of your life instead of self That gets rid of selfishness "Seek ye first the kingdom of God.' is the sum of the Sermon on the Mount. This is another act of the will. You are now a member of the Divine Family. "As many a! receive Him, to them gave He pow er to become the sons ot God even to them that believe on his name ' 3 You are now. ready to take God's plan for your life, secure daily divine guidance; 'Vou should pray the third prayef "W-ord. what wilt thou have me to do?" This is an act of the spirit and heart reaching out for the counsel of God. The Bible uses'-the term the Holy Spirit or the Counselor to describe God as givipg daily lead ing lo those who havf -aeeepted Hie pardon and taken a place in the Divine Family. ?7; -t This picture of how to owcome sin with salvation, selfishness with security is so simply presented that even a child can undertsand it. Accept it and you are a Chris tian: ignore it and you are no'. It's yours for the taking right row "Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved." Why stumble along with sin, selfishness, uncertainty, and coii fusion, when you can have salva tion, certainty, happiness. oy. peace, security here and hereafter ' Anthropologists believe Heidel berg man lived at the second inter glacial period, probably 250,000 years ago. Amos Demands Righteous Living BURNT OFFERINGS ALONE DISPLEASE JEHOVAH Scripture Amos S;2l-6:6; 7:10 By NEWMAN CAMPBELL EVERY AGE and every coun try has and always has had its wise men. In Biblical times, the Hebrews called them prophets, and their wisdom came direct from Jehovah. Sometimes they uttered prophecies of things to come; and on other occasions thoy exhorted their people to right eousness. These pleadings were combined with threats as to what would follow if their warnings were not heeded. In ancient Babylon many schemes were devised in attempt ing to determine the future, es pecially in relation to war, con quest, and the expansion of the kingdom. The Greeks consulted oracles. Today we call our proph ets statesmen, and we listen to them and have more or less faith in what they say, according to our personal analysis of their characters, experience and knowl edge. In Africa even today, and among our own Indians, medicine men are thought to be wise ones, wi'h mystic powers to heal, in- MEMORY VERSE ., "Let justice roll down as waters, and rigfittoumess at a mighty stream." The Lord would punish them, he threatened, unless they demonstrated their religion in their lives and obeyed Jehovah The Lord told him, Amos said: "I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not smell in your sol emn assemblies" I the Bible fre quently speaks of the odor of sac rifices arising to God). Amaiiah, priest of Bethel, re sented Amos' prophecies, and sent a message to King Jeroboam accusing Amos of conspiring against the king, and of prophe sying his death by the sword, and the captivity of his people. Amaiiah wrote that he had told Amos, "O thou seer, go flee thee away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread and prophesy there : but prophesy not again any more at Beihel: for It is the king's chapel, and It Is the king's ccurt." , Amos anivf,'pred'i.mazlah, say ing that he was not formerly a prophet, noi1 tjie son of a prophet, but a herdsman, when the Lord called him to projihesy. Micah, too, threatened Uvitieltes with dire happenings because of their wick edness snd luxurious living. Micah also prophesied that "In" the last days" the Lord's temple would be built on top of the mountains and people of all na tions would come to it to worship a prophecy that seems improb able of fulfillment at this time in a day of violent dissensions. He also told of a time when men should "best their spears Into plowshares," and there should be no more war.
