GEORGE BORING Mountaineer Correspondent Well folks, the suspense is all over and at last we know the ans wer to what we have all been aitxi-! ously waiting for. That Is. it ij all! ever but the shoutins. and we White Oak folks sure feel like just that. Quite an honor too, having Governor Scott present us wi'h the $200 third prize money. Thank you Judges, you have made the residents of White Oak Community very happy with your vote of confidence in them this past year. ; , . .' ' v ' V.'e are proud to be one of the "big three" winners in the 1W9 Community Development Program in Haywood County. Our congrat ulations to Ratelift'e Cove Commun ity and Iron-Duff Community for being the top winners. A lot of credit goes to Mrs, Robert Davis and her committee for their untiring efforts toward their community, thus making it better place to live. Mrs. Davis or better known to all of us as 'Edna", was the only woman chair man In the whole set-un. but he certainly proved her leadership and that she wasn't the giving-up kind. Our community may be the smallest but we sure did the best with hat we had, and came up a winner. .TRANSACTIONS IK Meal Estate Jonathan Creek Folks See Farm Improvement Film By Mrs. W. J. Rainer ! 'Emancipation Pen Rests In Museum BOSTON (UP) The pen used by President Abraham Lincoln to sign the emancipation proclamation freeing the slaves now rests In the "museum of the Massachusetts His torical Society. Owned orginally by Col, William R. Livermore, it was obtained di rectly from the president after the signing in 1863 by Sen. Charles Sumner. Its authenticity is' attest ed to by a series of letters showing that Lincoln saved the pen for Livermore, instead of replacing it among other wooden, steel-nibbd pens in his drawer, a story that has produced at least two other "genuine" emancipation pens. it it trtff .- h as the minerals i fireorool rals from .
