At the Wellco Shop Corporation lant here, Andrew Szerenyi has leen working for years as plant en ineer and as official in charge ol )lant supplies and machinery. Mr. Szerenyi himself was bon: n Hungary, and migrated to Can ida 25 yearn ago. Hearing of the Szentivanyi' flight, he immediately contacted .he Wellco management. Wellco engaged Mr. Szentivanyl is a bookkeeper. That was a big jump from tin nanual labor job which had bare y supported the family for a year. Thin the Hungarian's 37-yenr-ikl wife started looking around foi night work to heln her family eveii nore. And when her search for that ;ort of a job failed, she rented ; wo-sloiy home in Hazelwood, am' ipened up a day nursery and kin U rgarten. Both Swnlivanyi's are pretty ell qualified for their jobs. The 43-year-old head of the fam ily at the time of the Nazi invasion if his home country was super visor of the Hungarian National Hank in Budapest. He holds the university degrees if doctor of: economics, law, and agriculture. He's also a Certified Public Ac countant who speaks German, Spanish. Italian. French and Serb ian, as well as his native tongue, lluently, and now can speak English almost as well, though he didn't know a word of the language when lie first leached the United Stales. Mr. Szenlivanyi's work was so vigorous that the Nazis labelled him as one of the Gold Robbers. He helped smuggle out of his country 50 wagonloads carrying 36 tons of gold, two wagonloads of silver, and $30tt.000,000 worth of bonds in January 1945. The Nazis intercepted a train- load of this wealth, but the bulk of it escaped confiscation and was hidden in a 900-year-old Monastery until the war ended. The U. S. Military Government returned i( to Hungary after the Germans were defeated. Mis. Szentivanyi. a Hungarian Red Cross nurse, gained years of experience in social work befeire the war, specializing in the care and placement of homeless chil dren. During the war, she worked in the Hungarian Red Cross Chil dren's hospital. After the liberation of their homeland, the Szenlivanyi's didii't ! just wait for someone to send them i home from the DP camp. '. Mr. Szentivanyi worked as ad ministrator of the camp's general hospital and with the children's tuberculosis children, Mrs. Szentivanyi served as the hospital's dietician and supervisor of the children's wards. For her nursery she is accept ing children from two to six years of age. and takes care of them rom 8 in the morning until 4 in the afternoon while their mothers j arp working. The name Szentivanpi. appropri- I ately enough, is the Hungarian j word for St. John. It was St. John's Church of Waynesville which ar ranged 'for the family to be ad mitted to the United States.
