Miss Beth Pankey of Coral .Gables attended the aueen as maid of honor and attendants were Miss Jennie Swearinger of Bartow, Florida, Misses Betty and Martha Morton of Little Rock, Arkansas, Miss Carolvn Nelson of Plnehurrt, Miss Susie Walker of Winmington, and Miss Dorothy Hosford of New York. The junior princess was Marilyn Mackey of Coral Gables, Music for the pageant was vnder the direction of Mrs. S. H. Win chester of St. Petersburg with Con nie Webber of Columbus, omo as sisting. Valuable prizes will be Illustrated Lecture To B e Given Wednesday At Court House On Park The first of two series of illus-l trated Park lectures will be giv en here, Wednesday, July 18, at the court house at 8 o'clock. Rich ard C. Burns, Park naturalist, will be in charge, and give as his lec ture, "Through the Years In Tht Great Smoky Mountains National Park." The colored clotures will show plant and animal life for all four seasons in the Park. Such lectures have been well at tended n past years, and a record attendance Is expected to attend. The event is being sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, and there are no admission charges. On August 13, Mr. Stupka, Par naturalist, will give the second in the series of lectures. T The mayors of Haywood County's four towns, Waynesville, Hazel wood, Clyde and Canton, along with VFW and other officials have been invited to appear on the form al opening program Thursday night. The program will get under way at 8 p.m. each evening, Thurs day through Saturday. 3 More Vehicles Collide On Curve East Of Hospital A three-vehicle wreck about six o'clock Friday afternoon caused about $400 property damage, but no personal Injuries, according to Patrolman Bryan Basden, Investi gator. The wreck happened just be yond the curve on Highway ia-j near the Drive In Theatre. . Patrolman Basden said that a new Oldsmobile, driven by Walter Rollman, headed towards the Lake, had stopped in order to make a left turn into a drive-way. A line of traffic was coming into Waynes ville, when a Ford, said to have been driven by Jimmy Davis, came awarded winners.' Guy Teague, chairman of the nnntPt has asked entrants to come to his photographic studio any day this week and have their pictures made at no cost. They may also come to the Champion pool for photographs Sunday at 3 p. m. The Waynesville Lions Club will start off then new year with an auction sale at the Esskay Galler ies Saturday morning at 10:00 O'clock. According to Dr. Boyd Owen, ! president of the club, a number of valuable and useful articles will be put on the auction block, and the proceeds will go to the club for promoting the number of pro jects that are listed for the com ing year The Esskay Galleries are furn ishing the auctioneers and the. use of their facilities free of charge, and in addition are donating 6 waterproof watches to be sold at the sale. The community has been divid ed into zones with a committee of Lions to contact the business plac es and homes for donations for the sale. Already several country cur ed hams have been promised to go on the auction block. The Lions Club has a heavy schedule in front of them for the coming year and are going to need quite a bit of money to put their projects across, and this is the first of a series of promotions the club Is sponsoring to raise tnese necessary funds.
