Paul -'McElroy left Friday for Camp Stoneman, Calif., to report fur duty with the 1500th Air Trans port Group, Military Air Transport Service, Pacific Division. Lt. McElroy, who remained, in the reserve forces after separation from the Air Forces In September, 1945, was recalled to active duty last mouth. He has been connect ed with Watkins Chevrolet Com pany. . Lt, McElroy served three , years with the Army 'Air Corps during World War II. He received pre flight training at Maxwell Field and at the Mississippi Institute of Aeronautics, Jackson, Miss., and had basic training at Greenville Air Base, Greenville, Miss. and at the Army Air Forces Adyaneed Navigation School, Monroe, La.. Up on graduation from the latter he was commissioned as second lieu tenant and went to Europe with the 91st Honib Group of the 8th Air Force,; He was promoted to the rank of first lieutenant while in Kngland; I'piin his return from Europe, Lt. McKlroy had additional training at Central Navigation Instructor's School,. Monroe. La., and taught Advance and Celestial Air Naviga tion at San Marcus, Tex., and Greenville, S. C. E. Weath. erby. The first game of the 1951 season will be played Saturday night, September 8, with Valdese coming here for the first time. The Valdese team, said coach Weather by, is one of the strongest in the Western North Carolina Confer ence, made up, as it Is, of juniors and seniors. The monthly council meetings of the Senior and Junior MYF Groups of Bethel Methodist Church were held Wednesday. The Juniors met in the afternoon at the home of Nancy Smathers, The Seniors group meeting was that evening at the home of Norma Jean Sheffield. ' Six Visits Slated In This Week's CDP Field Days The full week's schedule for inter-community visits has been an nounced, with one correction made. On Wednesday White Oak will visit Thickety, and on Thursday Iron Duff will visit Cruso. Iron Duff will meet Tuesday night at 8 p. m. at the home of J. R. Caldwell to make plans for Thursday's trip to Cruso. Tuesday's tour of Crabtree will begin at 9 a. m. at Ferguson's store. All families in the community have been requested to bring' a picnic basket for lunch at the Riverside school. Cruso community has called a meeting for Tuesday night to com plete plans for Thursday. Camp Hope will be the scene of the lunch and the afternoon recreational pro gram. At the last Cruso CDP meeting, Eugene Henson was elected chair man to succeed Lester Stockton; who has moved to Hazelwood. Miss Essie Sellers was named Vice chairman. . , ., . ., . .- . Bishop Paul B, Kern, Nashville, Tenn.. was nresented a new Buiek sedan as the gift of - Methodist churches of his episcopal area. The presentation was made by district superintendents and past ors of his areaV-Middle and East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia at a South-wide conference of Methodist ministers. Bishop Kern, a former dean of Perkins School of Theology, South ern Methodist University, was elec ted to the Methodist episcopacy in 1930 and assigned to the Nash ville area in 1938.
