Wild Bill Elliott Coming
In Exciting Screenplay
Wild Bill Elliott's latest starring'
production for Allied Artists, "The
Maverick." with Myron Healey and
Phyllis Coates in top supporting
roles, will be the next feature at
traction at the Strand theatre,
opening on Wednesday, in this
one Elliott plays tile part of a
lieutenant in the United States cav
alry, assigned to lead a small
troupe of mounted soldiers against
a gang of gunmen, hired by ruth
less cattle barons to drive the
homesteaders from the range
country.
It is the type of role in which
Elliott excels. His portrayals of
the heroic western characters are
always true to the popular con
cept, and for this reason his fol
lowing has increased constantly.
In "Tile Maverick" he heads a
large and talented featured cast in
cluding such favorites, other than
Healey and Miss Coates, as Rich
ard Reeves, Terry Frost, Rand
Brooks, Russell Hicks, Robert Bray
and Florence I-ake, the latter play
ing an indomitable old iady who
joins Wild Bill's cavalry forces in
a climactic gun fight.
The picture was produced in se
pia tone for Allied Artists by Vin
cent M. Fennelly and was directed
by Thomas C'arr from an original .
story and screen play by Sid Theil, ,
It was magnificently photographed
on location by Ernest Miller, and
has a sweeping musical score com
posed and directed by Raoul 1
Kraushaar.

the timers, and goes about her
other business without worrying a
bout the eggs.
New X-ray equipment has been
added to the department, and in
addition to this, the cystoscopic
room has its own X-ray machine.
I believe that the nunjber (eight)
of the operating rooms and the up
to-date equipment will impress
the visitors about as much as any
thing in the hospital.
It would be practicallv impos
sible for the changes that have
been made without adding to the
medical staff. Dr. Alan K. Brown,
a roentgenologist, is in charge of
the expanded X-ray department,
I and Dr. Sims S. Hindman heads
the pathology department, which
did not exist at all in the old hos
pital.
The hospital should indeed give
the people of Haywood County a
feeling of satisfaction. Except for
the larger units in some of the
State's leading cities, Haywood's
1 medical center places the county
on a par with any in North Caro
i lina.
