Clyde Here Tuesday Night; WTHS Tops Crabtree Twice By BOB CONWAY Wavnesville won a doubleheatler from Crabtree-Iron Duff hero Fri day night, but neither WTHS squad looked particularly impres sive in victory. The Mountaineers won 52-36 after the Mountainettes had triumphed 37-27. In the listless boys' game, Tom my Nichols led the Gold and Black with 14 points while Joe Aldridge hit for 13. Ernest Hoglen, an ac complished long shot, and Johnny Crawfo-ri each got 12 for Crabtree- i Iron Duff. Neither team had too much luck at the foWTThe. Wiynfwltle hit 6 I out of 13, while Crabtree-Iron Duff dunked 10 out of 21. The Mountaineers led through out tlie game: 15-7 at the end of ' the first quarter, 21-13 at the half, and 37-22 at the three-quarter mark. In the girls' tilt, Waynesville led 9-3 at the end of the first quarter and 22-7 at the half. IJut the Crab tree lassies eame back strong in the third quarter to outscore the Mountainettes 13-6 and narrow the margin to 28-20 at the end of the quarter. In the final quarter, WT1IS bit eight.points to seven far C-ID. Betty Smith led her sextet in its third straight victory with 18 points. Barbara Smith, with 10 points. ( paced the Blu? Eagles, while Mary, Sutton was outstanding on defense in breaking up a number of Waynesville passes. In the free throw department, the Mountainettes caged only seven out of 22 attempts, while Crab tree-iron Duff cashed in on only four in 11 trips to the foul line. The Waynesville girls' offensive also was stymied by a high number of bad passes made during the game. WTHS will play host to Clyde here Tuesday night and Sylva Fri day night. Peggy Edwards, Bethel's blonde long-shot artist, hit 21 points to lead the Belles' Joan Ferguson collected 18 for the hostess Fines Creek Fillies. Bethel was ahead 28 15 at the half.
