University of North Carolina alumni in Washington had their first formal meeting with acting UNC President J. Harris Purks at a dinner in the capital last week. Dr. Purks, who may be named ? to miteeed Gordon Gray as presi dent of the University, gave a chat ty speech and reviewed many of the problems facing the University. There was an exceptionally good turn-out for the meeting, with about 75 people attending. OFFICERS. The UNC group re elected John Lang of Carthage as president. Other officers named were Jim Magner, Randy Proctor, Peggy Warren, and Barbara French Brown. There was quite a number of outstanding Tarheels at the ses sion, including Dr. Hugh Bennett of AAsort County, John Graham, Fred Morrison, and Ralph Gard Highway Commission Adopts Resolution Regarding G. G. Page The State Highway Commission at its regular monthly meeting adopted a resolution, offered by Commisisoner Harry Buchanan, on the untimely death of Division En gineer George G. Page. Speaking of Mr. Page as one of its most competent Division En gineers, the Commission cited his years of faithful service and more recently his carrying into effect the organization of the Fourteenth Highway Division. The resolution expressed to the family of Mr. Page, the deep feel ing of sympathy of the Commission and its many employees, and its appreciation for the untiring efforts of Mr. Page.
